Very good 8.0
Very good but not for a spa visit
The hotel was much bigger than we thought it was going to be with 360+ rooms. We were upgraded to an apartment as there was a wedding on that evening and they thought it would be good for us to be away from the noise. We were very grateful for that and think this was a nice thought on the part of the management. The apartment was a larger room with a sitting area and also a small kitchen area with fridge and microwave - it was very comfortable and looked to the back of the hotel over the pool and gym. My main gripe would be the spa. We had booked this hotel after a difficult couple of days specifically because it has a pool and spa. When I went to the pool it was closed because it had reached capacity. I left my phone number and was called about 10 minutes later to say it was quieter. I returned and it was quieter but not relaxing as it is too small to have a proper swim. The sauna and steam room were good but the bubble pool never seemed to be accessible when I was free. It appears to be on a timer and you cannot sit in it while there are no bubbles so have to time it carefully along with the others who are also waiting for it. The Spa is open to members too who are not hotel guests which also increases the amount of people there. Given the size of the hotel, I do not feel that the facilities are big enough. We were not disturbed by the wedding and the breakfast next morning was excellent both in terms of choice and quality of food and efficient staff.

Very nice hotel with a good restaurant. Unfotunately, the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay (in fact for 2 weeks over Xmas & New Year) and we weren't informed until we arrived. This is significant, as the hotel is 3 miles out of town and the nearby Wellington Hotel restaurant is not very good. The hotel had their reasons fod this but I feel we could have been advised at time of booking or even in subsequent confirmation emails. Not sure whether that is responsibility of the hotel, Expedia or both. To be fair, bar food was available and the bar food menu is fairly extensive. In fact, we ate there one night and tried both daily specials: pea & mint soup and beef stroganoff, along with pate and oat cakes. All were very good, with the stroganoff in first place for flavour thing with the pate for presentation, decent accompanying salad and juicy dressing. Breakfast on the first day meant hot food ordered individually and brought to the table. Service was brisk, but food was lukewarm. On the second day they set up self-service hot buffet, which was much better. Moving on, the pool and spa centre are very good, rooms very comfortable and clean, decent LCD tv, big bed. Bathroom recently modernised. We noticed there had been a chain on our room door which had been forcibly removed but not replaced. Staff cheerful, friendly, positive and professional. Overall, a great place to stay but you need a car.

Very good 8.0
When we checked into our room the tv did not have subtitles which was a problem as my boyfriend is deaf. This was quickly resolved by the front desk staff who upgraded us to a ground floor room. The tv here had subtitles so my boyfriend was very happy. Just one other issue which was after we checked in we thought we would enjoy the pool, there were around 20 people in the pool and jacuzzi. 3 unaccompanied children were splashing around in the pool and a guy kept throwing his son in the water resulting in a lot of splashing. Because if this my boyfriend had to get out. This put quite a damper on our stay as I'd chosen this hotel becsuse of the leisure facilities. I work for a hotel/ gold standard serviced apartments, as such i get a considerable discount if i stay at the malmaison hotel. Would have been nice if the children in the pool had been kept under control so that everyone coukd enjoy the facilities.

Poor 2.0
worst hotel ever! Awful staff and very dirty
The windows in the room look so dirty as if they’ve never been cleaned. We were told the pool was full and had to wait, The pool is tiny hardly anyone there. We reported a domestic on our floor and nothing was done. We were awakened by workmen at 6.30am on a Sunday banging till almost 10am, receptionist said someone was stuck in a room. Laughable as the rooms have phones and it was definitely a hammer. Our room was the so far from the lift my children thought we would never get there. Carpet was disgusting and needed a hoover and clean, whole room needed a clean. No changing rooms in swimming area, just awful. You couldn’t pay me to stay there. Staff were really unhelpful even when I asked for complaints to be made.

Adequate with nice staff
We stay in Aberdeen a lot and thought we would give this a try. It's a large not pretty looking building however reception staff were lovely on arrival. We had a nice big room. Facilities all OK a bit tired though. Leisure facilities had a family allowing really small kids in sauna and steam room and jacuzzi and there is nowhere to sit. Breakfast was better than OK. Staff again were very pleasant. All in all I would return at the right price. If you're just looking for somewhere to stay it does a decent job. It's not my first choice. It could be doing with an upgrade however the market place in Aberdeen has probably been very tricky over the past few years.
