Glenlo Abbey Hotel
Had a 2 day stay last week. We really had a lovely time. We had an up grade to a beautiful room, the views, decor and cleanliness were first class. Staff in the main restaurant were very helpful and professional. We also really enjoyed the meal we had in the restaurant, the waiter took time to show us the Pullman restaurant when we had finished. It felt like a very special evening. It was very easy to book s round if golf, The course is very well kept and added a nice element to our stay. If we are in Galway again we will definitely stay here

Questionable 5 star
Location and setting of hotel are stunning and that is probably what the 5 star rating is based on. However, different parts of the hotel have differing standards. The cellar bar food and.staff were excellent. Main dining room is a very depressing affair and falls far below expectations for a 5 star establishment. The breakfasts were mediocre with the cooked food usually cold and unappetizing, coffee dreadful and service slow. The worst thing was the music being played which gave it a feel of a funeral parlour. All of which was a pity as there is great potential. Bedroom spacious and well appointed however a very aged bathroom with a barely.working shower dial and large cracked sink are not what you would expect of 5 star establishment. The best asset of this hotel are the staff who were extremely.pleasant and helpful.

Lovely Country House Hotel
Lovely country house hotel in beautiful grounds just outside Galway City, overlooking Lough Corrib, with open fires, plaid carpets, and in spite of the grandeur of the decor, a cosy and welcoming feel. Staff were very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was excellent - plenty of choice, and served in an elegant room with sweeping drapes and stunning views. We had dinner in the Railway Carriages that once formed part of the Orient Express, which was a unique experience, and again, with excellent service. However, we all agreed that the food was competent, but not memorable. Our rooms were spacious with big windows, and again, great views, but here I felt the hotel fell down a little bit as the decor was verging on the tired, we had a crack in our bathroom sink which meant it did not drain properly and the bathroom door was so heavy we had to prop it open with a dusstbin! However, we left really relaxed, and well looked after, and would certainly stay here again . There was
