Wonderful New Orleans Hotel
Lovely hotel for visiting New Orleans. Restaurant an added bonus with delicious food. Great location for the French Quarter.

Hotel with character... and some rough edges
There was a lot to like about the hotel, from the style of decoration, artwork on the walls, and friendly staff. However, the room I received on the first floor (175) had only a tiny window that faced into a 2x3 internal shaft, and this meant that the room had no natural light and also smelled quite musty. I could also hear nearly everything going on in the room above me (creaky floor boards), the rooms near me, and also the corridor where lots of people were shouting at all hours of the day (but, hey, this in New Orleans!). I used ear plugs, but if you're a light sleeper then I wouldn't recommend this. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room. I also got charged a $5 a day facilities fee on checkout, which was confusing, as there weren't many "facilities" provided? Being cynical, $5 feels like just like the right amount for them to make extra money without having guests complain too much.

Good 6.0
Just returned from this hotel, which we stayed in for the final part of our honeymoon. The hotel was quite nice, and there were some great people working at the valet station, but the people on the front desk were often a little short or unfriendly. There’s no separate concierge desk, so front desk are dealing with admin like checking guests in at the same time as discussing recommendations etc - perhaps this plays a part in them being short with us, as there would often be a queue. However, it didn’t feel very inviting or like we received good service, and we had a particularly bad encounter when we asked where we could buy migraine painkillers one evening. In addition, although there’s a cafe in the hotel, this is instead of having any tea or coffee in the room, so you have to queue for the cafe and pay extra every time you want tea or coffee. This gets particularly awkward in the evening when the bar is running, as you have to drag a staff member away from the very busy bar to come make you a cup of tea. It would be great if kettles could be added to the room or left accessible to guests elsewhere, especially as we discovered upon check-out that the hotel adds a five-dollar per day ‘facility charge’, which we found a bit galling on top of what we spent on tea and coffee!! The location of the hotel is great though, and the reception always smelled fantastic, so with this and the very friendly valet and cleaning teams, you can have a great stay here.

A taste of New Orleans
After reading all the reviews I thought this would be a great alternative to the larger chain hotels we usually stay in, It was a wonderful hotel, loads of exposed brick and timber and displaying local artists work. The rooms were large & spacious, "industrial" style furniture and had a safe, minibar and plenty of storage. The floors are wooden which does mean lots of creaking when people are walking around. The walls are quite thin too. The bar & restaurant was fantastic, limited choice for breakfast but reasonable prices and good quality. If you chose not to have house-keeping they credit your bill with $5 per day. I would definitely recommend the hotel!

Stay somewhere else
The hotel was conveniently located and was clean. The front desk staff were not welcoming, I felt like an inconvenience to them, check in was late with no apology other than the fact that they had a busy weekend... . The room had a double bed which was not big enough for 2 adults and was not as described when booked. We were put in a room that was next to the lift shaft and it sounded like we were sleeping on a building site every time the lift went up and down which was a lot and prevented a decent sleep. You could hear everything that other guests were doing in the rooms above and next door which also prevented a decent nights sleep. There was nobody to assist with luggage to the room and parking was $45 a night which I wasn’t told about until I got there. One morning we came out of the room to find dog poo all down the corridor. There were no hot drinks facilities in the room, breakfast tasted good but service was bad.
