About Hotel Edison

Midtown hotel with rich history, steps from Times Square

Hub of theater district

The Art Deco-style Edison Hotel stands in the middle of Manhattan, right around the corner from Times Square, with a choice of Broadway theaters within 5 blocks. Rockefeller Center is a 10-minute walk, while a 15-minute walk north takes you to Central Park.

Modern masterpieces

Just north of Rockefeller Center, the Museum of Modern Art - also known as MoMA - features masterpieces by artists such as van Gogh and Picasso, as well as recent cutting-edge works. After admiring the art, you can indulge in a little shopping on Fifth Avenue, a 12-minute walk.

Free wine-and-cheese hour

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the Edison hosts a free wine-and-cheese hour, and there are free walking tours Tuesday through Sunday. The Rum House, a classic New York watering hole, features live jazz and cool cocktails, or if you'd rather work out, the hotel has a 24-hour fitness center.

Italian linens

While the hotel is rich in history - Edison himself turned on the lights at the 1931 grand opening - the rooms offer modern comforts and conveniences. Pillowtop mattresses are layered with premium linens, and WiFi is available for up to 2 devices.

Tired, dated and not as described
Décor in poor condition - paint chipped everywhere, marks on walls and very dated. Bathroom was terrible - the bath was unusable, the toilet leaked and it was incredibly dated. The bath had been painted but most of it had chipped off so was very tough to the touch. There was no window and no extractor in the bathroom so it always remained humid. Booked a junior king suite as the photos showed two rooms, one with a bed and one with a sofabed. Reception manager offered us an upgrade (although they didn't see what the issue was with the room). However, they wanted an extra £200. Having already spent £450 for 2 nights I wasn't prepared to spend more. We had to downgrade to a classic twin queen as the suite was nothing more than a room with a sofa jammed up against the bed. It was not a suite by any stretch of the imagination. Found out that the picture on is of a one bedroom suite not a junior king so was mis-sold. No tea/coffee facilities in classic room so ended up spending a fortune on refreshments. Also facility fee is a joke. "Bottled water" is straight from the tap, no newspapers are provided and you had to pay extra for fast broadband. Facility fee doesn't even run to free bag storage.

Don't book this Hotel!!!
This is my first time writing a hotel review and i stay in hotels every week so a hotel has to be bad for me to spend my time writing a review. Firstly lets start with the positives.... Great location and.... well thats it, the only good thing i can say. Now negatives... the room was small and i mean really small. The ad says 23 sq meters, more like 23 sq feet. The room needed a general tidy up in terms of decor. The heating/aircom only worked in the bathroom. Desk space was taken up by the coffee machine and other junk left on the table meaning you only get about 3inches of useable space. Wifi barely worked and i mean like dial up speed. They charged me an extra $25 per night as a "facilty fee", when questioned this i was told its for the use of the hotel facilities... funny as i thought id paid the room rate for that privilege but it seems that only covers the actual room and you have to pay an extra $25 just to walk through the front door to get to your room. To be fair, looking back at my email and it does say they charge it extra in the small print. Apparently its for the Wifi which was rubbish and the website said was free. For the use of the gym which we didn't use, office facilities..... i dont recall even seeing a desk or office space and for the use of guests, telephone calls which we didnt make and finally for bottled water in our room.... which the website said was free. All in all.... bad service and extortionate fees. I suggest you book somewhere else.
