Nice hotel, great location but buyers BEWARE !!!
The reception staff of this hotel is not very honest. We were checked into the hotel by a reception staff member into a double room in Grand Tower instead of the Executive Tower that we booked and paid for online through Expedia. When we went up to our room, we immediately realized that we were given the incorrect room, since this room is approximately one third of the size of the similar room in the Executive Tower (the room in the Executive Tower cost more). I immediately went to the front desk and met a different staff member and explained that we were checked into the incorrect room. This staff member proceed to inform me that because I booked my room through Expedia, the room I booked was only a preference, and it was not guaranteed. I told them that my room was confirmed by Expedia and was fully paid for. The staff member indicated that they could not honor my confirmation but if I paid $30.00 more per night, they can give me a suite in the Grand Tower. I refused and told them to refund the difference between the price of the rooms which was $30.00 per night. I then called Expedia and told them what happened. Expedia called the hotel and called me back to inform me that I would be given the room that I had booked. When I went back to the hotel front desk, the same staff member indicated to me that she had made a mistake and was sorry for the error. In my opinion, it was not an error, they were just providing Expedia bookings poor service.

Staff Turned Around Downtown Holiday
Every year, we spend several days downtown with our family, with includes 4 boys. To make sure we have enough beds as well as room for 4 growing boys, we reserved two rooms and requested adjoining rooms. And it was our youngest one's birthday! Upon arrival, the hotel did not have adjoining rooms.. and we continued to try a get a solution, but we were stuck with two separate rooms, albeit right next to each other. It is not terrible, but not what was requested, and not the family connected experience we wanted.... and what it means is making sure our two youngest were with us, and having our older boys by themselves... With one of our boys in the other room getting sick in the middle of the night, getting locked out of his room, and then wandering the halls, this was just salt in the wounds of a difficult night. of course, if we were all connected, we could have limited the discomfort. Thankfully, the staff (asst managers Lukas and Jael) mentioned they would try to improve situation the following day, and they did, we two attaching rooms that had a connecting room in the middle, a perfect situation and very room for us, such that my wife and I had a king size bed in one room, the two little ones could sleep in a pull-out couch in the middle and the two bigger boys had double beds in the other room. It felt like heaven compared to the night before. This helped to turn the vacation around.

Exceptional 10.0
Great hotel at an even more amazing location!
Great location right on the Magnificent Mile and close walk to everything. It is centrally located between Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and Water Tower / Hancock buildings. We are fit people and just walked everywhere to include the Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium, although those are a bit of a hike. We have stayed here before and landed a sweet deal at Hotels.com so were glad to go again. Otherwise, we have stayed at competing hotels that are a bit less nice. The only reason we don't consistently stay here is the price which does fluctuate a bit but I would pay a bit more for this hotel over the nearby lesser competition. The room is upscaled and contemporarily decorated, very clean and the mini bar (although crazy expensive) actually has a very small portion for your own refrig needs.. The in-room Keurig and replenished K-cups was a nice bonus. The room was not very large however and the bathroom a bit tight, but we were not in the room much until late in the evenings. We did not try the in-hotel prime steakhouse (Michael Jordans) but you are across the street from one of the best prime steakhouses in the city (Joes Prime Steak and Stone Crab) which is to die for! There are other Chicago staple items that are extremely close: Pizzeria Due, Gino's East, Stans Donuts, Garret Popcorn. Ask the concierge for their business card which will help you jump the line at Gino's.

Magnificent Hotel on the Magnificent Mile
My kind of town Chicago is and the Intercontinental was my kind of hotel as well. Overall, we were quite satisfied with our stay. This hotel is in a perfect location which was key to all the things we wanted to do. We had plenty of breakfast alternatives, but I have to say that the breakfast at the hotel ranked up to be one of the better breakfasts we had during our 4 day stay. Since I was an IHG member, the hotel offered free Wi-Fi and upon checking in they additionally offered us 2 Starbucks drink cards (of which we didn't use) as well as a great room on a high floor with a great view. The reception couldn't have been any more accommodating. And fortunately for us, we didn't have to wait on lines to be addressed. After we settled in, we spoke to Rachael at the Concierge Desk who really made sure, that were restaurant choices were taken care of and she suggested great sightseeing trips to our liking. She was perfect with her recommendations. We took advantage of the gym which had all the necessary equipment, towels, water to make our workouts great. Although we sat by the pool, we didn't go in. However, there was plenty of activity in this beautiful indoor pool. The rooms were well appointed and most enjoyable.

Run Down
Pretty disappointed with the Chicago Intercontinental overall. I booked and prepaid and paid extra for a room in the executive tower online. When I arrived at 3pm (the check in time) they checked me in and said nothing. As I started walking to my room I realized my room was in the Grand Tower. I went back to check-in and told them the put us in the wrong tower. I was told it would be at least another 45 min before they had a room in the Executive Tower. However, she would give me a discount and I would see it on my bill. So I said ok. The Grand Tower room. The room was very small and really run down. The furniture was chipped and splintered. There was a wall behind the opening of the bathroom door, so you couldn’t open it wide and I kept hitting my hip on the door handle squeezing into the bathroom. The paint on the bathroom counter was chipped and rubbed off in several places. It would have taken 10 minutes to touch up the paint. Even the decorate tin sitting on the bathroom counter had chipped paint. Tacky The next morning, I wake up to the bill. The difference in room charge hadn’t been removed. So I had to go back to the front desk to correct it. There I was now told they couldn’t discount it, because I prepaid on Expedia. However, he said he would cut my parking in half. So I agreed. Breakfast Buffet- We went to the breakfast buffet on the second floor. Terrible! The food was cold. The milk was warm. At $50 for the 2 of us, it was disgusting.
