Good but inconsistent
The hotel was excellent and in one of our favourite parts of London. The reception staff was friendly and helpful, but seemed to distrust their own housekeeping staff and kept making comments to the effect that they might not get things right especially concerning special requests. In fact, we made a few special requests and while they were eventually met, it was a bit of a battle. In addition the person on the room service line was deeply incompetent and didn't seem to understand English very well to the point where we had to go get food somewhere else. That being said, facilities were excellent as was the room. Breakfast was good and in general staff was helpful with these few exceptions. I would just wish there was a bit more consistency in the quality of service.

Room for improvement
The welcome was good, as was the state of the room and condition of the hotel. What let it down was that this is not a cheap brand hotel but there were avoidable issues with our stay. The bathroom towel rail over the toilet meant one is smothered in wet towels when using the toilet. However, the shower was really good, as was the variety of toiletries. Breakfast was a farce. A hotel that big needs to be far more efficient. Guests had to queue for 10-20 minutes just to be seated, causing distress to less able guests - especially as the queue was directly in front of the main lobby doors that were mostly open and draughty. This was caused by poor organisation in the restaurant. Most of the tables were unoccupied but required clearing. Guests weren't seated until a table was cleared. 6-7 staff on duty but none would take the initiative to clear tables on their way back to the kitchen. The food was not replenished quickly enough to meet demand. I had to wait a further 20 minutes just for 2 glasses in which to pour fruit juice. We thought we'd thwart this fiasco the following morning by ordering breakfast in our rooms. One full English and one continental. The full English was cold. The continental had no preserves or butter served to accompany the pastries (which were over-cooked), rendering them inedible. No milk supplied for the tea so we had to drink it black - not trusting milk would come before it went cold. Checkout was ridiculous. Massive queue.

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from Euston Station and 5 minutes to the British Museum. The toiletries are good quality. The concierge was friendly. There is no mini bar or room service but there are coffee making facilities and a fridge. The hotel lets you check in online and choose your room. Unfortunately I was not given the room a chose which was a 6th floor street facing room. Instead I was given a inward facing 3rd floor room. I did ask why I wasn't given the room and the response was I was upgraded. I cannot believe the room was upgraded. It was extremely small and it was really awkward getting in and out of the shower because the toilet was in the way. I even hurt my foot getting into the shower because it was so cramped. There was also no window or working fan in the bathroom to let out steam from the shower, I had the do not disturb light illuminated but was woken at 8.30am by staff letting themselves without even knocking, and without an apology. I think the hotel, despite being in London, is expensive. Particularly the room I was allocated. I won't stay in this hotel again.

I checked in late 10pm after a long day at work I was greeted by a unhappy looking manager, I was given my room key on arrival at room I thought the room was ok not any where nice as pictured but suitable for a one night stay I opened the bathroom door to be greeted by the stench of sewers the drains where very obviously blocked, I called down and told to come back down for another room They took a long time to greet me at the reception desk but when they did promptly changed my room I arrived at my new room it was ok very tired and very dated the bathroom tiles where stained and grubby looking something had been spilt up the tiles and has permanently marked them as well as rust over lots of the tiles it wasn’t clean however it was ok for one night, I got in to my bed and felt a terrible breeze I thought I must have left the window open strange in February I looked at the separate single glazing was missing from one window the frame there but no glass it was freezing as it was right next to your head in bed it also meant it was extremely noisy with all the traffic that passed, by this point I was in bed and didn’t have the energy left to dress and go back down stairs to complain again when checking out they did not ask me about my stay, I was very excited to stay here the rest of the hotel looked amazing just rooms very tired and dated I would not stay again for this fact the images do not represent the current state of the rooms and poor cleanliness

Solo vacation
Booked a small, single room for my trip. I’m usually out most of the day so was looking to save some money by booking a small room in a good location. Room was small (not too small) and bed was comfortable. Very clean and updated hotel. Quite as well which was nice given my room faced a busy street. The breakfast was decent and was free with my booking. Saved some extra money with free breakfast. The staff was great and always willing to help out, especially when I needed to store luggage. The area was safe too. Will definitely stay here again. Good value for the money and location.
