Very good 8.0
First off: My ratings reflect the unfortunate fact that the hotel is undergoing a massive refurbishment, so many areas are a work in progress, and the restaurants were closed. That said, it will be finished in October, and promises to be splendid. The location is great with Gloucester Road Tube station almost on the doorstep (and buses ON the doorstep!) and there are plenty of shops and eateries within quick walking distance... and the V&A, Albert Hall and the Natural History Museum are found after a comfortable stroll. Do ask the staff for recommendations-- they are very kind. My main niggle with my stay seems to be a glitch with Expedia. I had booked a "room with a view" standard double as advertised on the website, but when I arrived, I was given a lower ground floor room-- even though I had specifically requested NOT to be put in the basement! The hotel was full, and they couldn't move (upgrade) me until the second night, so I didn't bother for the sake of a 2-night stay. Fun fact: ALL of the standard doubles are located on the lower level (although there will be some on upper floors after the renovations). That said, my room was huge by London standards, very clean and ultra-quiet... the biggest on that level. The staff are excellent and cannot do enough for you. Thanks, all! I'm sure this place will be wonderful after all the work is over, and I would stay again. *If you like Italian food, try Da Marios nearby!

Good 6.0
So I stayed here one month after the property converted from a Rydge's to Melia property. I was underwhelmed to be honest. I arrived late at night and the man at the front desk did there bare minimum to check me in...copied my passport, took my credit card and gave me a room key. He did not tell me where the lift was, where and when breakfast was served or did anything above and beyond the very fundamentals of check-in. I reserved a "king room" which I payed extra for since I'm a big guy and was staying five nights. I did in fact get a king bed but the bed almost completely filled the room. I know London hotel rooms are tiny but this was a king bed squeezed into a "single room". The room was a little threadbare...painting chipping, shower head crooked, and carpets soiled. I'm hoping Melia is planning to update and renovate the rooms over time. I also wondered if I was put in a tiny room because I booked through expedia and not directly because the man at check in made a point of saying I booked through a travel agent. Breakfast was included with the room and was your standard English breakfast fare which is ok for me. But the first few mornings, I got the sense that things in the dining room (and kitchen) were a bit chaotic, like this was all new to them. By my last morning, there were two new wait staff and things seemed to be much better managed. You cannot beat the location near Gloucester Tube stop, shops, restaurants and pubs. But not a 4 1/2 star property!

I really wanted to like this hotel, but I had a couple unfortunate experiences during my two-night stay. I ended up in a room on the lower ground level that had a broken AC the first night. Reception gave me a fan, and it did get fixed the next day luckily, but on the second night I saw a mouse come in under the door and run around the room. It was a little unnerving and made me question the cleanliness of the place overall. I called the front desk to let them know and they said they would come down and take a look in the hallway. When I checked out in the morning, I also let reception know about this, and they said sorry, but I don’t feel like they made up for it. I didn’t ask them for anything, but in my opinion, a nice hotel like this should make an extra effort in a case like this to apologize. I don’t know if I’ll be staying at this chain again.

I was very impressed with the Hotel London Kensington. I booked my rooms months in advance and they were very reasonable, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The lobby was modern, clean and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. I booked a family room and a double room. The family room was a good size. We did not utilize the small sofa as a bed, so I'm not sure about the comfort of it, but the bed was very comfortable. The rooms were air conditioned, which was a plus in summer. The other standard room was very spacious and appeared to be recently remodeled. The hotel is undergoing renovations, but it didn't interfere with our stay. The Hotel is extremely close to the Tube and there are numerous cafes and restaurants in the area. I would definitely stay here again.

Fab room, nice staff, great location!
Beautiful hotel, great location. Had a massive power outage and had to pack up and prepare to move to another hotel, but the staff was very nice during the difficult circumstances. Ended up being able to stayed the power was restored. We LOVED our room. Great style/decor and a second room for our daughter. Some renovations going on and we did have some strange plastic temporary carpet but other than that, the room was nearly perfect! Would definitely stay again and recommend. Gloucester tube stop is across the street and Natural History and National Science Museums just around the corner.
