Good honest budget hotel
Great location, room upgrade was very much appreciated. Housed in an old cotton mill (a model of which is on display in the science and industry museum) this budget hotel is old and maintained on a budget. There’s no thrills and the decor may be dated and mismatched, But it is clean. I would reccomend it for a city Center hotel for adults. I probably wouldn’t want to bring kids here over a weekend as with many budget hotels, it attracts a certain crowd. The only thing I would change would be repairing and updating the lifts.

8/10 Very good

Rule Britannia
Even though it was quite busy, check in was ok - my room was quite spacious- I’d been allocated a twin room even though I was travelling solo - not a problem though - bed was quite comfy - would have liked a small chest of drawers though! Bathroom was ok too - plenty of hot water - shower over the bath - lighting in the room could have been a bit better. - as my room was at the front it got a bit noisy with the usual noise from doors slamming in nearby rooms. Didn’t have breakfast this stay so can’t comment on that - apart from the security guy who stood and watched me struggle up the front steps with my luggage I’d stay here again.

6/10 Good

Mixed comments.
General standard of cleanliness good. However, there was no daily room service, and no easily found communication about this. I eventually discovered basic information about this and meal times etc in a leaflet at reception. Room was on 5th floor, accessible via lift, but ensuite facilities were up another flight of stairs within the room, which would not have suited someone with mobility issues. On the first evening, both lifts were out of order, which meant a walk up 5 floors, not a pleasant expereince. On second evening the fire alarm in my room was activated. There was no alarm ringing outside the room, and I discovered one other guest whose alarm had gone off in the room. There was no communication about this, and it was only because the other guest volunteered to walk down to reception to check what was happening that we were able to be reassured that this was a fault with the system. A little worrying.

Very disappointing!
Ive stayed here before many years ago and i was shocked to see how much it had gone down hill. Very run down. Carpets on the grand staircase were frayed and torn, lokked dated and dirty. 2 guest lifts. One of these wasn't working at all and on the first night the other broke down. I asked if there was any other way of my disabled partner getting up to the 4th floor... yes we have a service lift you can use... that also failed to work!!!! We ended up using the stairs and he was exhausted afterwards. Room run down... cracks in ceiling, soap dispenser broken in bathroom, tap leaked when turned on and water ended up on the floor. Spare towel from the cupboard had a hair on it, which didnt look like a head hair! Room hot, no aircon so even with window open no way to cool the room down. Very disappointed with the stay. Staff overwhelmed, under trained or just plain didn't care.
