Lovely Grand Old Hotel in the Heart of Berlin
My gf and I recently stayed at the Westin Grand for 4 nights while on vacation. We are highly experienced travelers. When you first walk in, you feel like this might be one of those old hotels that needs a facelift, because the huge domed lobby is not brightly lit. After a few minutes, however, you realize that the lack of glitz and the subdued atmosphere and decor are absolutely charming and very relaxing. We are not hotel lobby types at all, but found ourselves eating a couple of dinners and taking some afternoon snack/coffee breaks there (you can sit in any of the cozy little groupings around the periphery, not just in the elevated restaurant area) because the lobby was so pleasant and the wait staff so friendly and accommodating. Besides the lobby restaurant/bar staff, the concierge staff is absolutely first-rate. They take care of whatever you need with a smile, expertly and immediately. Besides calling cabs and helping with our extensive luggage (due to all the photo gear, tripods, etc), they gave us invaluable tips about the safety of certain neighborhoods late at night, the best way to get various places, where to find a store selling something we needed, and so on. We have never seen better concierge service anywhere. The room staff also were friendly, cooperative and helpful. Room was clean, pleasant and well-appointed. Hotel location was absolutely perfect for getting to Berlin's main attractions, most by walking, and has U-, S-Bahn and bus stops nearby.

Beautiful Hotel & Great Location
The hotel is beautiful and is located in a very trendy part of Mitte, minutes from the Brandenburg Gate and on the corner of the Unter den Linden. It was even featured in the Matt Damon movie Bourne Supremacy. The hotel location, interior, and exterior is great. The interior of some of the main rooms is old and dated. They're still nice but they're dated. It's more wood, crystal, gold plating and marble instead of black, modern and stainless steel. It had exposed piping in the room for maybe what appeared to be a radiator which was a bit surprising for a place built in the renovated in 2007. The biggest issue I have with the hotel is they cheapen themselves by charging for everything. Free in-room wifi is an extra €15 a day! The only free wifi is in the lobby/atrium and it is at a speed of less than 1mbps. They were trying to charge €8 for a small bottle of Vittel water in the refrigerator. They charged me €50 a day deposit. That was about $450 for the week! I only stay in 4 star or higher hotels and have never paid more than 50 pounds or euros or dollars if at all for a deposit. Things like this rub you the wrong way at a nice place that is already a bit expensive. Overall, the staff is great and he location and hotel is beautiful and I'd absolutely stay again.

Lovely hotel in good area
We stayed for 3 nights in October. On arrival we were upgraded to a Superior Garden room which had a living room as well as bedroom and large bathroom with bath and separate shower. The bed was a good sized double which was very comfortable with nice pillows and bedding. The air con didn't seem to work ( maybe too late in the year?) so the bedroom, which had no window, got a bit hot and stuffy. We left the living room window open all night. The garden it over-looks is nothing much, you really just look out onto a flat roof with air conditioning ducts. There is tea and coffee in the room, kettle and coffee-maker. The toiletries are good and include conditioner and body lotion. There is a hairdryer as well as robes and slippers, an iron and safe and umbrella. TV in bedroom and lounge, some British channels. Plenty of storage space - lots of wardrobes. On the downside, there is a charge of 15 Euros a night for wi-fi in the room ( free in the lobby). One very minor complaint is we each had a coffee on the first day, and the coffee pods were not replenished on the second day. A complimentary bottle of water was left in the room but not replaced on the second day. There is a pool and spa, the pool is small and circular and the water very cold. The sauna was at an extra cost. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as it was an extra 32 Euros each. Try Gallery Lafayette cafe, Einstein Cafe or Nante Eck just round the corner for a good breakfast.

Great Location but not a 5 Star Experience
The hotel is in a great location, close to transport, tourist spots, high end shopping and restaurants. The hotel is marketed as 5 Stars and as a result visitors would have expectation of the experience. I travelled with my family (wife and a 5 year old) and booked a superior room. When checking in the receptionist was courteous however no guidance was given about how to find the room or any offer to bring bags to the room. The location of the room transpired to be up in the main lift, an extremely long walk to the end of the corridor and then down a flight of stairs into what I would describe as almost an annex of the hotel. The room itself was small, very dark and close to on-going rail works outside the window. I went to reception to complain and while the receptionist changed the room, there was no apology just a statement that they would swap us with someone who hadn't arrived yet. No offer to help move our bags, yet again. I pity the poor person who got that room. We were given a larger room on the third floor however this had two single beds and no child bed. I said this wasn't acceptable but was told this was all that was available. On a day to day basis we found that not enough towels or shower gels were provided for a family of three. We complained to the cleaning staff who provided these for one day and then nothing after that. No staff were present at the pool reception and instructions were very unclear. The overall experience was fair from 5 Star.

Brilliant location, brilliant staff
The Westin is about as perfect as you can get regards location. 5 Minutes from the Brandenberg Gate, 5 mins from the train station which is ideal for commuting to other parts of Berlin and the airport. We had previously sent room requests via email, and all the requests were accommodated on arrival and the check in was very quick. The hotel looks fabulous, with swimming pool and spa, a really beautiful hotel. Please be aware there are room taxes to pay per night per room according to star rating in Berlin which the Westin is a 5 star and costs €4.31 per night per room. The Westin also offer a green option if you don't wish to have your room cleaned everyday but you can still have new towels and bedding changed by calling reception. If you choose this green room cleaning option you can have either a room credit of €5 or you can have points on there loyalty programme or donate the money to UNICEF. This credit can be used against food and drink purchases in the hotel. Top tip if you like your British tea take some tea bags and ask for a kettle at reception which the hotel supply free of charge. The rooms have a pod machine in your room which uses coffee and tea pods which are free but my wife preferred the good old British tea bag. The drinks are quite expensive in the hotel, but to be expected in this class of hotel and if you order a beer you get a nice little tray of savoury nibbles and with hot drinks you get some lovely sweet Concierge was also brilliant
