Spiders! I killed 5 big big black spiders
I read the reviews here before booking and it sounded great. Unfortunately it was not all that I expected. This was mainly because over the course of staying there for 4 nights I killed a total of 5 large quarter sized black hairy spiders and one large brown/black thing that I guess was some kind of spider. Freaked me out. The first day I killed one black spider, ok well no big deal, thought that would be the end of it. The next day I killed two more! Thought that would be the end of it. The third day I killed one black one just like the others and a brown/black furry thing that I am not even sure was a spider or a big scorpion of some kind. It had pincers, it was gross, quarter sized as well. Most of these things were in the bathroom but I did find a couple of them crawling on the living room rug. After the 3rd day of this I called the front desk and they sent the maintenance man out who left me a note and said he had sprayed for bugs in my room which was #813. So I relaxed and thought all was well. Surprise! Those spiders are smart! The next day there was a big black spider just like the others up at the top of the wall near the ceiling! He knew there was bug spray down low so he stayed up high!! Was happy to check out of there as I realized the room was infested. Ugh. Also when I requested housekeeping come to clean my room they never showed up tho the girl at front desk said she would send them.

Good 6.0
I loves the accessible location of this property, how it had a beautiful view, and a cozy little apartment like feel. The kitchen was readily stocked with the basics like can openers, plates, and utensils. I was quite pleased. However, when it came to cleanliness, I was a bit bothered. The pillow had a foundation make up type stain on it and the dish had a small spot. Luckily I could move those things around. At breakfast, the spoon had a spot, which smudged when I picked at it. The first day, when housekeeping came to clean, they did a good job. As a purposeful test, I would leave small things behind to see if it would be taken care of, and it was. Dishes were taken out of the sink, floors were swept and mopped, and the table without crumbs from the night before. Therefore, wou can imagine my disappointment when on day two, it was like no one came to clean. The dishes were still in the sink, the floor riddled with dirt (from hiking the day before) and hair. I only recognized the room to have been “cleaned” since the garbage was gone and the bed unneatly made. This was after leaving a tip since I was so please with the first clean. Overall, good property and location, but cleanliness was questionable...which is a big thing.

Poor 2.0
faulty room safety equipment, evacuation at 7am
7am wakeup to fire dept and front desk staff joking about a possible carbon monoxide leak in our room. Happens all the time they said. Fire dept joked about having to 'check me out in the shower' to my husband who answered the door. Gross! How is the hotel allowed to make money on rooms and jeopardize guest safety with faulty smoke and carbon detectors. What if there really had been a problem? My husband had been asleep and we had to frantically hurry to open doors (it was snowing outside) and try to gather all our belongings. It was a tramatic experience and no one from the hotel tried to offer support, invite us to breakfast early, offer an explanation or refund of any kind. We were told at 10am finally that there was still no manager on duty. 3 hours later? What a wasted morning of out vacation. I would not recommend anyone stay here until they get their safety equipment fixed and train their staff in hospitality and customer service. I had to call and argue for 1 night refund on my 3 night stay. Not what I wanted to do on a day of my vacation. Would not feel right if we didn't warn other guests and a fire or carbon actually hurt someone!

A little out of the way - gem in Flagstaff
We visit Flagstaff a couple times a year. It is a way for my son and his family to beat the Phoenix heat and it (Flagstaff) is about half between their home and ours. Previously, we had two rooms at one of the hotels in town. That was fine, but it is fairly expensive. My wife (who is a genius) suggested a hotel with a 2 bedroom suite. The Sonesta was highly rated, significantly cheaper than 2 room separate hotel rooms and, while not in the middle of town, convenient to downtown. First impression: It does appear that the Sonesta is a converted apartment building. The manager said it wasn't, but it does have that vibe. The suite was quite spacious. Two bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom, separated by a living room/kitchen. While a little on the older side, it was very clean and well kept. The good: bed wonderful, breakfast good, QUIET, close to downtown. pool, basketball/paddleball courts, gas barbecues. Pet friendly (with normal associated cost) with a nice little dog park. Ample parking. Has wood burning fireplace! The interesting: small bathroom vanity. Not enough to put much on, used drawers to store most stuff. The bad: Beds not made in the morning nor new towels, though rooms vacuumed. Not a real problem as we were traveling with a 14 month old baby. Nice to have new towels though. For July, it was cold and the heater didn't heat - fan just blew cold. Turned off system. Very minor points

Very good 8.0
Great stay, cleanliness... not so much
Overall experience from check in to checkout was easy and simple. The room however, was a little disappointing when it came to cleanliness. The entry door to the room was a bit hard to open due to the alignment being off and it would stick on the top side of the door to the frame. Inside the room behind the entry door was scattered chunks of dirt and wood from the door frame. Microwave was left a bit dirty. The dish washer was extremely dirty with a large pile of dish washer powder that was hard as a rock left in it untouched. Furniture and walls had multiple stains and scratches in various spots. The shower curtain had multiple large brown stains on the mesh materiel closest to the shower curtain bar.The most shocking and disappointing thing to find was the blanket on the bed. Multiple light brown and black stains all over the edge of the blanket that would be right near your face. I never use hotel blankets to begin with however, that was completely unacceptable. The breakfast was good with lots of selections to choose from. Overall stay was pleasant with cleanliness leaving more to be desired. I would stay here again since the pricing is reasonable and the location is away from all the noise. Hopefully the staff can learn to pay more attention to detail.
