Very good 8.0
Wish the rooms matched the lobby & service!
Pros Location - Located on a lovely tree-lined street with beautiful walk-up homes (similar to DC and Brooklyn). Lake is in walking distance along with everything else. Service - Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Great service. Hotel - The lobby, bar, dining (main floor) has a nice contemporary boutique feel. Also has nice quaint outdoor eating area on the sidewalk. Cons Hotel Room - NEEDS REHAB. I was not happy with my room. It was dark and old. I got the King Deluxe Room and was informed that King Deluxe does not get natural light as the one window either looks to the hotel inner stairwell (which was my room and was so creepy... I kept my shades pulled down the entire time. That is, until housekeeping came in and pulled them back up :/ ) or, they face the inner building. Bathroom - ceiling paint was peeling so bad it appeared holes were in the paint from what looked to be like a leak or a patched up paint job from too much moisture. Toilet tissue holder wouldn’t hold the tissue so I had to place it on the non existing counter space in the bathroom. Plug in the bathroom was on the wall near the light switch which is by the door across from the bathroom mirror. So I had to stretch my curling iron and be very careful as to not to burn myself because it was not conveniently location near the “vanity.” Carpet and walls were quite dingy. I was so happy I brought my slippers.

Poor 2.0
The property was nice, clean and modern. But regardless of how nice and clean the property, it's the staff that makes your stay a pleasant one. The staff (front desk and the staff where they serve breakfast) were rude, unpleasant, not helpful, and have superiority complex. There were 3 of us staying at the hotel. They give you one piece of paper for breakfast voucher. But I woke up really early and decided to go to breakfast first. But that is not possible. All of us have to be there. I said just cross out 3 and mark it 2. The answer is NO. They could resolve this by issuing 3 separate breakfast vouchers - so each visitor can go to breakfast at their leisure. Not only are they rude, their service and attention to customers are terrible.

Wouldn’t stay again
We decided to do a last-minute night in the city (we’re currently living in the suburbs), and we wish we stayed somewhere else. When we opened the door to the initial room we were assigned, it smelled so awful that we needed to ask for a different room. Our new room was functional, but had different spots in the bathroom and by the window that just weren’t clean. The rest of the room felt dirty and poorly patchworked with repairs and updates over time. The AC was really loud and didn’t work very well—the room kept getting far too stuffy. The service was bad - our remote was broken and it took two calls down and 30+ min of waiting to get a new one (and, the cable wasn’t even working properly, which the hotel worker told us was a known issue when he brought a new remote). We did like the live music the next morning in the lobby though; nice touch. And the location was great. This hotel overall feels like it needs a good renovation and more attention to detail.

Exceptional 10.0
The hotel is beautiful very clean and has a beautiful smell that makes you feel at home. It is very clean, our room had water damage in the bathroom ceiling, not a big deal but still, you don't expect to see that in your hotel room. The included breakfast only includes coffee or tea, one pastry ( plain or chocolate croissant ) and a cup of fruit, we ended going out for breakfast, (they also have a breakfast menu at good prices). Overall we had a good experience, the room was very comfortable and clean.

Very good 8.0
The newly renovated Hotel is a low cost option to staying in downtown Chicago. Only 15 minutes walk or a quick cab fare from the center of the City the Claridge is located just minutes from Lake Michigan's beaches. North Dearborn Street is an achitectual gem with beautiful homes and extremely clean and its easy to meet and chat on some very friendly sidewalks. It opens onto Lincoln Park a vast area of statues with the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Chicago History Museum, a driving range at the far end of the park and lots of grass. At the city end of Dearborn there are Irish pubs and lots of fun to be had. A 10 minute walk to North State Street where dozens of good and a few exceptional restaurants offer Chcago at its best.. definitely try Gibsons Steakhouse, its an institution, not cheap $100/each but a meal you'll never forget, sourced from their own Black Angus farms. I think the best thing about Claridge House is that you get exactly what you pay for, and it provides a perfect base for a stay in Chicago.
