Run away before the breakfast
Stay there...but avoid the breakfast at all cost. So long story shrot, great hotel, great rooms, great location, bar open 24/7 etc. Can't complain. However the breakfast is a nightmare, a disaster. The breakfast room is great, the breakfast options are limited but OK. There is a breakfast menu and you have to order what you want. That's where the problem occurs....the service. The first bad sign was that when we arrived in the room on the first day, we stayed for ten minutes standing before anyone asking to sit us down. We ended up sitting ourselves down. Then you chose from the menu and it can take up to 40 minutes to get eggs benedict. Beware, it's about a 25 minutes wait for hot chocolate and coffee...As we mentionned the fact that it was rather slow on our last day, we were told that it was normal as everything is fresh. Given the wait times, we therefore must assume that they had a couple of chicken in the back and waited for the eggs to come out.... The place is great but I would seriously avoit the breakfast at all cost. Or maybe we just had a bad experience...three days in a row...

Amazing Hotel and Perfect Location. 100% Recommend
We stayed here for 5 nights and could not have asked for anything better! Rooms/Front Desk: We were here during the week they re-branded from the Royal British to Hotel Indigo and they did everything right. The new rooms are stunning! Heated mirror in the bathroom, heated towel rack, and a huge waterfall shower. The bed was really comfortable and the Smart TV was awesome (there's a speaker in the bathroom!). The front desk was very helpful and accommodating. They had extra adapters to borrow for free (which was perfect since we only had one on the trip). They also gave us a map and some suggestions of where to go to eat. Hotel Bar/Food: We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but we got room service for breakfast which was amazing. We got a few drinks from the hotel bar (which you can order up to your room for a 5 pound charge). Coolest drinks ever! The bar is extremely busy on Friday/Saturday nights, as is most of Edinburgh. If you are there during the week, I'd make the most out of the bar before the crowds roll in on the weekend (or get there ridiculously early). Location: This spot couldn't have been more perfect. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the Palace of Holyrood House and the Castle. Since we were here in November, Edinburgh had a Christmas Market (food, games, vendors with wool scarves, candles, jewelry, etc). It was right across the street from the hotel so we always had something to do nearby. I 100% recommend this hotel!

Exceptional 10.0
This hotel definitely has one of the most prime locations in Edinburgh. If you arrive by train through Waverley station, the hotel will be directly in front of you as you exit via Princes St. The view directly in front of it shows the older buildings that line the Royal Mile all the way to Edinburgh Castle. The rooms are wonderfully decorated and made to look like libraries and the stairwells and café are all lined with photos and paintings that celebrate the city. There’s a wonderful bar and restaurant on the 2nd floor which we got to enjoy. Both share a breathtaking view of the city. The breakfast at the restaurant (named Twenty) is excellent and I HIGHLY recommend the full Scottish breakfast. The Haggis that comes with it is perfectly spiced and peppery. Very friendly and wonderfully diverse international staff. We chatted with hosts and servers from Greece, The Philippines, and Spain. My biggest compliment really goes to the hotel staff. I managed to leave a money clip with a good amount of cash in the hotel safe. By the time I noticed that it was missing, we were already over an hour away in Fife where we would spend the next week. I emailed the hotel asking if they happened to find something in the safe, not really expecting an answer. But I did get a reply from reception saying a good amount of money was found in the safe. From there we made arrangements on how I could get it back. The staff I communicated with were Robert and Alan of reception but hats off as well to

Great location, could had been 5 star stay
We had 4 rooms for a family of 8. Aircon in 2 rooms super noisy. Power plug in one room totally not working. Wifi signal in 3 of our rooms no signal. Hotel in excellent location, nice interior deco and cosy bed. An otherwise 5 star stay marked down by such poor amenities as above

Very good 8.0
Prime location for visiting Edinburgh!
This was a nice hotel, and great value for the location. The location was superb. It is literally across from Waverly station - so if traveling by train this must be the most convenient (aside from The Balmoral). The room and bathroom were nice and fully suited our needs - we didn't feel cramped and had room to unpack. There was only 1 small window in the bedroom (but that's just because of the original architecture), so it was a little dark. And even though we were on Princes St - it was quiet enough to sleep with the window propped open for fresh air. We stayed in a king room on the top floor. If you struggle with stairs, I'd say this hotel might not be the best choice. The lobby is on the second floor - with no elevator. There are elevators to the 3 & 4th floors, but if you stay on the 5th floor you'll have to take another small set of stairs to you room. That said - the building is very authentic and has lots of character - you can't always have modern conveniences in these amazing old buildings. So the stairs didn't bother us - plus we travel light so it wasn't a big deal. The staff was very friendly so I'm sure if you needed help with your luggage, they would be glad to do so. We only stayed 1 night and didn't get to try the hotel bar or restaurant. Would stay again if we had to, but would probably stay elsewhere if our budget allowed for something more extravagant.
