The hotel is in a great location to visit SF, just 3 blocks from Union Square. Coffee in the morning and available during the day was a plus. Loved the front room with a small living room and desk.

My new go-to in San Francisco

The hotel staff made our stay during my birthday and the Game Developers Conference extra special. After booking in a small room with tiny bath, the staff promptly was able to change our room to a very comfortable suite. We are extremely grateful for this. They also gave us temporary use a vacant room to do some work after we checked out, as there's no business center. We really enjoyed the Fino restaurant..ate there twice. And of course the historic nature of the hotel is always a pleasure. Location is a huge plus - it is in the center of everything, just steps from the theater district and 2 blocks from Union Square.

Hotel is undergoing room renovations. My friend had an upgraded and renewed room while I did not. My room was adequate, with a comfortable bed (and a tiny screen tv). I would stay again, especially in a renovated room.

Very friendly and helpful front desk service people; nice to have an extra blanket in the closet; everything worked—lamps, switches, hot water, plenty of plugs for electronic devices; even the old- fashioned floor radiator was easy to turn on and heated up the room fast.

Quaint Hotel, Comically Small Bathroom

I love these old, boutique-style San Francisco hotels. The building itself is really cool, with quaint, vintage common areas and a cozy Italian restaurant that adds to the charm. The lobby has a small, European feel that’s both welcoming and unique. My room was quite small, as I expected for the price and location, but the bathroom was comically tiny-even smaller than an airplane bathroom! To sit on the toilet, I actually had to straddle the miniature sink. The bathroom was so compact that you could quite literally stand just outside the doorway and still reach the toilet-an unusual but surprisingly convenient option, given the space constraints. The shower was also small, but the handheld shower head was a nice touch and made it easier to use. Despite the size, the bed was comfortable, and the closet was surprisingly spacious with a large shelving unit-great for extra storage. The room also had a tiny desk, a small TV, an alarm clock, coffee maker, lamp, and a huge phone, which made the desk feel a bit overloaded. Since I needed to work, I cleared off everything but the TV (which was the perfect size to use as a computer monitor) and set up my laptop. I actually got a lot of work done during my stay. Everyone I interacted with on the hotel staff was amazing-friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Overall, the building’s historic charm and the excellent service made for a memorable stay. I’d definitely stay here again, just be prepared for a very small bathroom!

Room was not vacuumed, no towels (had to ask), tiny tv, no night tables to put my stuff on, and way over priced. Nevertheless if you don’t mind the feel of a lower class not so tidy room in an old hotel, it was nice. Old architecture has it’s charm although dirty. Very convenient to everything in Union Square and that’s why I stayed there. Staff was courteous and helpful and continental breakfast was a nice touch.
