O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel
Nice, central, and being updated
Hotel was in a nice location, a stone's throw from Trinity and national museums with easy walking distances to other central sites (Temple bar, 15 minutes, St Pat's, Dublin Castle, 20-30 minutes). Tour buses stop just down the block. Despite the central location, it was also quiet--a plus. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, but a bit dated, although hotel is in the process of renovation. If I ever am in Dublin again, would gladly stay a second time.

Never, ever, again
Didn't actually stay there - was moved across the road to their sister hotel the Alex - which had been refurbished??? No view and nothing like what we booked - no Gym had to go to another hotel (the Dav)- The Breakfast was cold and poor quality on both days - in fact it was the worst breakfast I've ever experienced in Dublin by a country mile. The dinner likewise wasn't good quality (or value) - the steak was tough and the sea bass overcooked and dripping in oil. Would definitely never go back

Nice hotel. Would stay again.
The heater in room 7200, when you played with the controller, seemed to actually control the air conditioning. The room got a little chilly even when we left it off. That being said- the blankets in the room are heavy and AMAZING for holding in heat. The bathroom was nice and the type of shower gel they have stocked smells very good! There is a filling breakfast you can get every morning starting at 7AM for 15 Euros if you didnt order it with the room. For the most part, a typical Irish breakfast but you can ask one of the workers if you can special order and ommlette or poached eggs. Right next to the hotel is a pub called "The Ginger Man" and it has a delicious steak dinner for 20 Euros. A bit pricey, but it is very tasty. The hotel statt was very friendly and very helpful- they even ordered us a taxi before so we could get to the airport. I would definitely stay here again.

A Nostalgic Visit to 1974
Unfortunately, this once lovely hotel in a most stately building is frayed around the edges and management appears to have taken a laissez-faire attitude toward maintenance pending a planned renovation. Our dated room was in sorry condition: creaky furniture, lifeless thin pillows, stains on the walls (probably Guinness!), not enough blankets, ineffective heating system and worst of all, a smoke alarm that flashed continually through the night! After turning in around midnight with the lights off, we found that the smoke alarm flashed periodically and were faced with the uncomfortable choice of toughing it out or getting up, getting dressed, repacking and asking for a room change. It was a lose, lose situation and, exhausted, we decided to sleep through it....The hotel has a great location and, on a positive note, the staff at the front desk was lovely and attentive, assisting me with a scan/email. I'd try this place in the future but only after the planned renovation is completed. In the meantime, I'd steer clear...
