Lovely staff and friendly welcome!
A grand old building in a great location for the Hoe and the City Centre. Although the hotel is a little bit dated and could do with a refurb, the staff more than compensate for the appearance. Cheerful and friendly from start to finish and Covid precautions are well managed and don’t leave you feeling like you are in a hospital! The restaurant is running a limited menu to assist with Covid restrictions but this means everything is prepared really well and super tasty. Car park is small but easily accessed and free for hotel guests. I would definitely stay here again.

Not a bad option- Strange Covid processes
A bit old. Not a bad option for the price. Cool building in a handy location to the Hoe. The implementation of COVID-19 processes was a little strange and over the top such as not storing luggage.

Needs maintenance
I stayed overnight whilst working away from home. The hotel was not awful, but definitely in need of some repair, maintenance and money invested in it. The plumbing in the bathroom was pretty poor. In all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. There are a lot of other places out there in the same price bracket that are in a much better condition.

We have stay in the Duke many times, first time in a four poster room. So lovely. Will be back again soon

The room we were given was ground floor and had prison cell vibes (view attached). The positives: nice hot shower, relatively comfortable if a little cheap feeling bed. Staff interaction was minimal but pleasant enough. Negatives: our “view”, and as such we couldn’t open the window wide to air the room, extremely dated decor throughout. I’ve stayed in budget hotels that blow this place out of the water, but we paid an average of £93 a night for something worse than some 2-stars, and it didn’t seem busy to me. Don’t be fooled by the beautiful building interior/exterior. I imagine they have more premium rooms, but at those price points you may as well go boutique and guarantee yourself a gem. Maybe we just got given the dud room.. but I’ll be thinking twice about Best Western in future after this.

Parking is difficult here especially with an event on. It will cost you money if you park on The streets. Having to use the service lift was chore because the main lift needed repair

Bathroom needs updating, also breakfast wasn't very good. However... staff all very friendly and welcoming.
