Hotel Astor
Not good at all - don’t waste your money
It wasn’t up to the standard I was expecting. The lift wasn’t working and there was no kitchen open to eat any food at any time of the day. I paid a lot of money for this stay and felt it wasn’t worth it at all. Everything was so old fashioned and needs serious updating. In the room everything was clean but the AC machine was so loud it wakes you every time it switches on. Overall I was not happy at all and couldn’t wait to leave the place, so we checked out a day in advanced.

Great location , reasonable option.
Hotel is located a couple of blocks from all the action on South Beach. The hotel is quirky, has character and was built in the 30’s. It’s a little tired in places and our room could do with updating. Small outdoor area with a nice little warm pool. The check in process left us very unimpressed. We were very tired from many hours of travelling and would hope to feel welcomed to our hotel. The older lady on reception did not seem particularly pleased to see us and it was like she was going through the motions. I can live with that, however this I cannot... she then advised us we were on the third floor and advised us the elevator was broken. No apology, no offer to get an employee help us with the cases. She then watched us try and drag two very heavy cases up three flights of stairs. Very poor customer service. The room was a suite and despite looking a bit tired it was bright, roomy and had a comfy bed. Breakfast was basic with little choice however what was on offer was very nice. Overall I think this hotel was pretty reasonable however if it were not for the excellent handy location I do not think it would be worth the cost, well over £100 a night.

Very clean, nice pool area, lousy breakfast.
The hotel is smart and very clean and in good position . Our bed was comfortable and linen good quality. Pool area was a little haven, small but well kept and pretty. Check in was poor. No friendly greeting or information and we only found out when we checked out we were entitled to welcome drink. Only interested in taking our money. Valet parking $35. Contrary to website no complimentary chairs are available on the beach. Heard several guests complaining about this. Resort fee seems questionable. Breakfast was complete chaos. One poor waitress trying to do everything so no plates , bowls, cups and food and jugs all needed replenishing. Continental buffet not American so very disappointing for us . Overall very mixed feelings but probably good value .

Unorganised and broken
When we arrived we were able to check in early and use the car valet parking. After going up to the room we found out that the light did not work and there were some loose smashed floor tiles on the floor of the bathroom. Very comfy and big bed and spacious room. Very clean I got a random phone call at midnight from reception saying that they had my car ready from the valet parking. However I had not ordered it and I was asleep so not cery impressed with that. Then I got another call around ins after once I had returned back to sleep, checking that I haven't ordered it! Poor service here. We were then asked for more money when we left for a 'resort tax' which I understood was already included. We were not made aware of this charge when we checked in so it was a bit unexpected. I would not reccomend staying here unless you are only looking for a comfy bed

A Great Art Deco Hotel
Obviously not a new hotel, but that's the main reason for staying there! The hotel has great Art Deco features and is well maintained. Very close to Ocean drive, restaurants, bars and clubs, but still in a fairly quiet location. Really friendly and helpful staff. We only stayed for one night, but I would definitely recommend.
