About Savoy Hotel

Buenos Aires hotel near the Obelisk with restaurant and bar

Downtown Buenos Aires

Since 1910, Savoy Hotel in downtown Buenos Aires has been a sophisticated property, and is a 3-minute walk from Corrientes Avenue's theaters and tango venues. A 15-minute stroll farther down the vibrant street takes you to the towering, emblematic monument, the Obelisk.

Puerto Madero waterfront

With a 10-minute drive, you can drop in on shops, restaurants, and nightlife along a bridge-lined canal in Puerto Madero district. A 6-minute ride away lies Plaza de Mayo, with its prominent 19th-century buildings and centuries of political history.

French-inspired meals

The design of the hotel's Neo-Baroque facade carries into the Imperio lobby bar, where you can sip a cocktail under high, ornate ceilings with elegant chandeliers. A workout could be followed by French-inspired fare at Las Manzanas Restaurant or the buffet breakfast (surcharge).

Modern design

Sleek, European design is found in the 164 guestrooms, with natural wood floors and soundproofed windows. There's a flat-screen TV, and you can grab a drink from the minibar and check the day's email with the free WiFi, before turning in with your choice of pillow.

One night stay
Overnight stay prior to International flight. Very warm welcome and the room was comfortable and exactly as described. The building is old, but well kept. Internet speed is good. Checkout was simple and efficient.

Buenos Aires
We arrived on a very busy Saturday, not a good idea. Took over an hour just for them to put our bags somewhere safe so we could go out. We arrived 11am and the room wasn't available till 3pm, fine if we could have easily have left bags. Not the hotel's fault and they had warned us not to leave on show anything expensive, but my husband was then mugged and his Rolex watch grabbed and strap broken off his wrist - in seconds - very frightening. Spent hours at the police station. On returning to hotel we were shown to a 'broom cupboard' with a frosted window and when I opened the window had a running water pipe from air conditioner unit outside. Refused room and shown another - still a frosted window and very small but at least no outside running water. Again refused and said all I wanted was a clear window. Shown to a 3rd room that was fine, but this had taken 2 hours and we were then really exhausted. Next morning was another day. Do check on opening times and English tours as these are often not as in the guide books. The one way system does make catching buses harder if you aren't tech sav and don't have a phone map. Do visit the Opera House - Teatro Colon and Palacio Paz. Also Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernandez Blanco. Very hot and walked miles but worth it overall.

Savoy Callao Road Buenos Aires
Most staff were really friendly and helpful, although one particular individual wasn't as helpful when I requested for a Tango show booking (made me wait hours so instead of being picked up at the hotel by the show organisers) I had to make my own way there with a taxi even thought the price included hotel pick up and drop off. In regards to the location, if one likes theatres, the hotel is conveniently located near most of them, and those shows are spectacular. The room smelled of dampness and it was really dark, with no privacy as it was by the Callao road side and to let natural light in one must open the curtains and so be in full view of building across the road. I am sure this hotel was a 5 stars hotel back in the 40s or something, but now days it is a 3 star hotel, nothing less, noting more. Another positive was the good breakfast on offer, with good variety and different options.
