Grange Holborn
Definitely not an AA 5 Star Hotel
I'm guessing that this is not a 5 star AA hotel. Don't get me wrong, it's in a good location and at £100/night (room only) it's not bad for London, it was clean and tidy, front desk staff were ok, bar staff not very welcoming. We left our baggage earlier in the day but they couldn't find it when we checked in - did in the end. I have stayed in some fantastic 5 star hotels in the past and this simply does not compare. The room was ok - bathroom really tiny (you literally couldn't swing a cat!), air conditioning was so noisy you couldn't hear the tv and definitely not have it running if you wanted to sleep, there was no chair in the room!!! This is the first time that I have used Grange Hotels and I'm not sure that I would again. 5 star to me means - guests are shown to their room and given a full orientation of hotel and bedroom facilities. Hotel staff should take control of luggage from guest’s arrival outside to prompt delivery to the bedroom. The same quality of service should be repeated on departure. In a double/twin there should be two substantial easy chairs plus an additional chair providing comfortable use at the dressing/writing table.Staff should have excellent social skills and anticipation of individual guest’s needs to create unique and memorable experiences. Management and staff need training if they wish to continue to be called a 5 star hotel.

Good overall but could be better.
Great location - chosen for this reason. Breakfast very expensive for a child portion. When checking before arrival if my 6 year old could use the pool (other main reason for choice) I was told yes but not warned there were restricted hours for children. Only there two days and couldn’t use pool first day as a result. Had to change whole plan of visit. Disappointing not to be told about this over the phone when a 5* hotel. Bathroom very narrow. Could hardly open door without scraping oneself on the latchkey to proximity to side of bath. Pillows terrible - tired and flat. Very disappointing indeed and did not get much sleep alas. Staff very helpful. Pool and changing facilities good once we got to use them. As I paid with Tesco vouchers it was overall good value but if not I might feel differently.

Great location. Not 5 stars
Fantastic location but really not a 5 star hotel. I have stayed in much nicer 4 star hotels. The rooms were small and basic, the bathroom was tiny and no added extras like dressing gowns which I would expect from 5 stars.

Convenient but a bit brown and dated
Reasonably comfortable stay in good location. Staff a bit brisk on checking in - felt a bit unwelcoming and very little information given at the time. Room a bit dated but comfortable and clean. Typical meaningless messages in bathroom about making ‘you’ the guest feel responsible for environmental issues and yet there was a plethora of plastic miniature bath products!
