The Paramount Hotel
Not comfy (soft creaky bed, old carpet, v.loud AC)
I have loved staying at other Paramounts (especially Seattle) but my experience at the Paramount Hotel in Portland was less than impressive. The first room we checked into smelled musty, like someone had been smoking. Thankfully we were switched to a different room, and although grateful, we found the room lacking in comfort. The bed was too soft and creaked really loudly each time my husband got out of bed (and he's not fat). The carpet looked old and tired and believe the other reviewers who say the AC is LOUD. We had to switch it off at night as it was too loud and woke us up! Service is lackluster and management could do a better job of training the staff to take more initiative, such as helping front desk to manage long lines when some guests are requesting early check-in and others are leaving but need to store their baggage in the interim. While the location is great, we didn't have a very restful stay, and in future I will look for a more comfortable and inviting space than what the Paramount offers.
