I was only there for one night . It was a basic room but fine for a quick stay.

No sinks
The hotel is in a central location near most things. I loved the lobby and that was about it. My friend and I were in a room with shared toilet and showers which was fine as that’s what I signed up for. But we were put in room 218 right at the end of the corridor. The room was tiny. Wasn’t room for mine and my friends suitcase to be open so just to step around them. The toilets we shared were dirty and I really didn’t want to use them. The worst part was out room didn’t have a sink and neither did any of the shared toilets. I went down to ask and the lady behind the desk said oh yes your room doesn’t have a sink neither do the toilets as when it was built they didn’t put sinks. But they start of floor five so can use them. No sorry or let me see if I can move you. We ended up have to brush our teeth in the shower and buy anti back for our room. This room should be sold at a discounted price and be told there are no sinks on floors 2-4 (which I don’t understand and think she was lying as how can you have showers and flushing toilets but can’t build a sink when it was being renovated) just double check before you get to your room if you have a sink. As I’m sure it says all guests rooms come with sink

Poor 2.0
The hotel decor was cool, and the price was reasonable for San Francisco hotel. Location is great too, being close to Union Square. These are the reasons we booked here. However, front desk agents never smiled or let us feel welcomed. Inside the room was moldy smell, and our clothes stunk the day after.. we also had a man who warned us not to use the laundry / drying facility after 10 or 11PM because there may be guests sleeping in the nearby hotel room. It has a nice intention, but I wasn't sure who he was, and if there was any rule around the facility usage, it should be clarified on the booking page or at least upon check-in. It was difficult to follow that rule because we had a full day scheduled to tour around the city.

Basic budget hotel
The Herbert is a budget hotel in a very expensive area; you get what you pay for. We had a room with private bathroom which we would not have done without, I cannot speak to the condition of the shared bathrooms as we did not see them. The shower pressure was terrible! But still better than a shared bathroom. Our queen room was very basic, just as we expected, but had all we needed (plug sockets, fridge, ceiling fan to help keep the room cool.) The reception staff were all very pleasant & professional.

Mixed bag
Arrived to check in given keys and went to room and bed was unmade , TV still on and looked as though someone may have been still in room ! Reception sorted after short while but bit of a bad start. Negatives : Paper cups for coffee Plug for kettle too short and had to put kettle on chair to boil Shouldn’t be described as deluxe room (even had to query if we were actually in a deluxe room!) Door wouldn’t lock properly - in fact when room had been cleaned we went back and door not locked. Not fault of housekeeping as it appeared to be locked but you just pushed the door and it opened. We struggled to lock up each day. Staff hit and miss - some good some not so Positives Good location Luggage storage Sister hotel great food and drink Water in reception Overall ok stay and location fab but rooms over egged on description. Basic hotel in prime location so you pay more which is fine but definitely not deluxe !
