A room with an elegant view to history
I stayed one night in this remarkable property at the end of a wonderful driving exploration of Ireland. Needless to say it was an impressive first impression when I drove into the parking lot (plenty of available spaces for those with rental cars) and was met not only with the grandeur of the architecture, but also a very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff who seemed to take great pride in their role as caretakers of this historical property. The check-in staff were excellent and the room was clean, comfortable and outfitted with just the right balance of tradition and technology. My room overlooked a 500 year old cemetery that I later learned was for the Knights Templar who originally built and occupied the castle so it really took on another level of reverence for the opportunity to stay there. It's location was isolated and very quiet, but within 15 minutes walk of the beautiful Clontarf promenade which stretched along the coastline and provide a wonderful morning walk with views over to Dublin. It was a real experience - far and away more than a mere accommodation. Very highly recommended for those looking for a memorable experience as part of their journey to Ireland.
