    Poor 2.0
Unfriendly and unprofessional staff and manager
My 2nd time of staying in this hotel. Was there for a USDA panel meeting 2 yrs ago, and did not have an issue. Very clean but the room can be better spaced - too small. Main issue: Staff and manager’s attitude. Got to the hotel late because of flight delay, my room was already given out. They were going to send me to stay in another hotel, away from my students, whose rooms were not given out. So, I decided to endure sharing room with 1 of my students. When checking out, I talked about refund for the night to the manager. She initially denied that I booked the room for that night; then when I showed her paper evidence, she instantly denied she claimed I did not reserve instead of apologizing. She then made up a rule that it is hotel policy to give out room if the reservee did not show up by midnit. I knew many hotels state check-in time, some will provide last time to check in; most others don't. When I asked her to show me on their website where it says if I did not check-in by midnit I might lose my room, she could not because they have no such policy and she was still not willing to order a refund. After pointing her inconsistency to her, she accused me of being rude. When I would not budge, she asked me to contact Expedia, then I left. Expedia did well by negotiating a refund for me. SOME staff are generally rude - Danielle that checked me in next day was exceptionally rude when I asked why they ve no microwave – she looked at me as if I was from the Mars. Won't recommend

    Fair 4.0
I would recommend not staying at the Washington Plaza. The pictures provided here and on the hotel’s website are deceiving, making one think that the hotel is stylish and modern, but the pictures show the small areas of the lobby that have been updated. In reality, the hotel is worn and outdated. The floors in the hotel (other than the lobby) are covered with dusty and worn carpeting. The decor and furnishings throughout the hotel are similarly tired and outdated. Calling the hotel “historic” as the hotel’s website does is laughable. When I arrived, I was told my room was not ready, an excuse that was repeated when I returned a couple of hours later, well after check-in time. A manager who was called to help was unapologetic and dismissive. The room itself smelled musty and the carpeting was dirty (I found hair, a toe nail, and a piece of candy). The cold water faucet in the bathroom sink did not work and the coffee maker next to the sink might have worked, but the power cord did not reach any power outlet I could find. The room was noisy, mostly from workers talking loudly in the hallway, but also from guests in adjacent rooms. I was offered a different room for the remainder of my stay but refused. Security of the hotel is concerning. At night the lobby is deserted and one can walk as far as a hotel room as the elevators do not require card access and there is no security visible. I

    DO NOT STAY HERE
Check in was fine and I was looking forward to settling in and exploring the city. I went to lay on the bed to relax for a few, and there was a bug crawling on the sheets! Upon closer inspection, I found hair of varying length and texture (barf) all over the sheets. I called the front desk and they said I could change rooms or have house keeping come. HK (someone who seemed to be more in a management role and a staffer) showed up and changed the sheets, albeit viisbly annoyed about it. They finished making the bed and left. I looked down and saw there was make up ALL over the sheet! Chased them down in the hall and had them come back. The three other sheets they had with them were dirty (but remember, supposedly clean!!) so they were going to need to go to the linen closet. At that point I was so grossed out, I just wanted to check out and go to the Capitol Hilton. The front desk was incredibly rude and said there was nothing they could do about a refund and I would need to call Expedia. No apology, just frustration. I left and disputed the charge with Amex and wrote to Expedia (whose customer service was awesome and has already processed a refund less than 2 days later). Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30-$40 for the Hilton!!!

    Poor 2.0
    Very noisy.
I would have stayed somewhere else even if it was $100 or more per night more. The first night I had to call management at 1am as there were people in the hallway talking, and the people in the room next to me were very loud as well. Found out that there was some convention going on and there were college students from all over. It was like a college dorm or worse, at times there were 10-15 people standing in the hallways talking, people were leaving their doors open and talking across the hallways, etc.. Management advised they were all over the hotel and that there was no guarantee that moving rooms would get me any more sleep. They did have someone from security come and talk to the students, they were somewhat quieter that night but I had to call the next day as well. I tried to get my money refunded and find another hotel but the hotel refused as they said I had booked the hotel through a third party site, not theirs. They would not budge on that, even though they knew what was going on with the noise and how much it was affecting customers from getting sleep. Added on top of this was the fact I have never been in a hotel where you could hear your neighbors beside and above like this one, this is no exaggeration, even people speaking in a normal voice you could hear their conversation through the walls. If someone beside you or above you flushed the toilet, ran the shower, blow dryer, or anything you would hear it clearly. It became comical after a point.

Never Again until they work on Customer Service
I've stayed at the Washington Plaza for several years now while traveling to DC on business. Although the hotel is a little stale and could use a renovation I've always liked the location and their pool. This past stay has forever ruined my experience and I will no longer be staying there. The customer service I received tainted all the good times I've stayed with them. This past Saturday I rented a queen bedroom for 5 nights while in town for a conference and a series of subsequent meetings. On Sunday, I decided to lay out by the pool and had invited two of my local friends to come join me. All three of us were ordering food and drinks from the pool bar and enjoying ourselves when I was approached by the Assistant Manager. He pulled me aside, although still within an earshot of my two friends, told me that only guests are able to use the pool and since I was in a queen room which allows only one other occupant, I would need to ask one of my friends to leave. I asked if there was a day pass or a fee that I could pay to allow both friends to stay but he said no. I asked why I was not allowed up to 3 guests and he said that is only reserved for guests that stay in a two double bed room. In order to avoid further embarrassment in front of my friends, I moved my room to a two double bed and paid an additional $30 a night so that my friends could stay. I was beyond mortified and my friends were uncomfortable the rest of the day. BTW there is no policy posted on this.
