Good 6.0
This hotel was fine, with a relaxed feel and good location. Courtyard rooms are very quiet, even with street construction in front of hotel. And they have single rooms: nice in a city where hotels are expensive and you're a single traveler staying one night. But there are better hotels in central London neighborhoods for the same price. Rooms are completely adequate, but not as luxurious as some comparably priced hotels. Bed very comfortable, bathroom new & perfect, but the room was stuffy and air conditioner gurgled. The courtyard garden is a big plus: comfortable, pretty & quiet. No elevator, but Mainly, the quality of the staff was mixed: some were wonderful, others maybe need more training to work in a hotel of this price range. Note: If you want to go to the hotel's afternoon tea, I suggest you make reservation on the phone or in person. I reserved online via hotel web site and showed up for my 5:30pm reservation only to be told afternoon tea ended at 5pm (even though hotel advertises afternoon tea is served until 6pm). Happily there's plenty of good food in that neighborhood, so I wasn't in danger of starving! But if you are looking forward to the tea, for now at least, don't reserve online.

Fair 4.0
A nasty surprise in the bathroom and poor service
As a regular business traveler, I was shocked with the level of service in The Academy hotel. When I moved into my room I found an odd, lingering smell. After a short investigation it turned out that the bathroom was not cleaned - someone urinated into and did not flush the toilet. Also the sink outlet was blocked. On top of that the water temperature regulator in the shower was broken and not fixed during my two day stay. As a result I took two rather chilly showers when staying in the hotel. What was the most shocking though, was the way staff handled the situation. I was told that they were sorry about the toilet incident and asked if they could offer me a free drink in the evening (that I never received). There was no mention of sending the cleaning staff to my room immediately or making any other accommodations. I find this completely unacceptable for any hotel, and especially not one that charges 250 Eur+ per night. I will definitely not come back and I strongly advice against staying in this establishment - if the toilets are not cleaned properly, I can only speculate how clean the rest of the hotel is... At the end of the stay I was offered a free bottle of water for the inconveniences, how generous.

Not what is was
This was my fourth stay here in ten months. Obviously I like the place or I wouldn't stay as often, however the personal touch and caring employees are gone. One night the bartender closed the tiny bar without telling it's 5 occupants (of which I was one). When I went to the bar to request a second glass of wine, I was informed it was closed. I asked if a simple glass of wine could be poured and I was told no. Certainly not the experience one is looking for in a boutique hotel. I'm not sure if there have been so many personnel changes due to attrition or budget cuts but the staff is no where near the caliber of what was there earlier this year. When you're paying a premium, it's not unreasonable to expect personable service.

Exceptional 10.0
I wanted to stay in central London, this boutique luxury hotel was a perfect choice for me, offering 5-star and personable services. The front desk staff are genuinely sweet and helpful. I was amazed at how my room was kept spotless in this historic building. The beddings were changed everyday without any need of "placing the card" in the bed or any other non-sense. There are a couple of minor things that did not affect my overall experiences at the Hotel: 1), there is no elevator, but the bell capital is friendly and helpful; and 2). The in-room hairdryer has a very short power cord and there was no mirror to use so I dried my hair "in the dark".

Gorgeous boutique hotel
Hotel was a really lovely boutique style hotel. Gorgeous furniture and nice relaxed atmosphere. I booked my trip last minute and in a rush and hadn’t realised I’d booked a single room. The hotel was fully booked so I couldn’t change and was worried it would be time. This was fine though the single room was enough. Breakfast was continental but not your average and the coffee was fabulous. The staff were very attentive and super helpful. Lovely stay I will book again.
