LIFE NEAR THE ZOO

Good 6.0
A hotel of two half's.
Let's start with the positives, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The communal areas and the function rooms were fine. However his is feeling very much an event hotel were all the focus are on the above. The accommodation in this hotel is very much in need of an urgent update. The carpet in the bedroom is very warn, the decorating needs refreshing, the bathrooms haven't been changed since the 80's. The shower over the bath needed either replacing or at the very least descaling. There were two lights not working in the room. Disappointing when it could be a lovely hotel. Not what you expect with a hotel that has a 2 rosette restaurant, the quality isn't throughout their venue.

Pleasant stay
Friendly and welcoming staff. Comfortable rooms. Decor a bit old and tatty in places but generally very clean. Corridors very cold but rooms a good temperature

Do not waste your money!!!
When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a rather badly presented ill mannered receptionist. Our room was ok but was freezing cold and had far too much furniture in it making it quite cluttered. We also noticed that the corridors were also freezing cold. I asked for a heater and returned to the room. Later in the evening we returned to reception as a guest had left their dog in their room and it was barking non stop, they said they were trying to locate the owner. I also pointed out that the heater I had requested had still not arrived. We then went to use the pool and discovered it looks nothing like the pictures. Very tatty, no nice furniture like in the pics just tatty plastic garden chairs. The gym was a small room with 2 running machines shoved in it. Oh and what a surprise....it was freezing!! We didn’t even bother to use it. I booked a room with a balcony, which turned out to look like a rusty metal fire escape. No chairs to sit on and looked out over an overgrown area of grass with some broken tables and chairs thrown on it for added decor. This is probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in and I will certainly not return!

Marwell Zoo Hotel - A Family Approach to Guests
I have stayed here on numerous occasions for business. As ever, the staff are attentive, the food is very good, the rooms are comfortable and the area is quiet. My only negative observation is that, as a very bespoke property (quirky) it really could do with a makeover as the décor is starting to look ma little tired.
