Night receptionist
Everything was good except for the night receptionist on Saturday 15 January. Upon our return to the hotel halfway through our 3 night stay the barrier retained our parking ticket. I asked the night receptionist to give me another ticket in order that I could get in & out of the car park. He tried to charge me £15 for our 3 nights parking. I left it & had no problem the following morning obtaining the fee ticket. On Saturday evening also the fire alarm went off twice. Not sure if it was a false alarm we thought we should leave. The night manager was walking along the corridor and said nothing until I asked him was it a genuine alarm to which he replied it was a false alarm. I said it would have been nice to be told to which he replied “well you wouldn’t have been able to use the lift”. We were on the 4th floor & my husband is not good using stairs. If we hadn’t bumped into him my husband would have had to struggle down 4 flights of stairs! I have stayed in this hotel many times & have not come across this sort of behaviour before!

Great stay
Lovely, friendly staff who went out of their way to make our stay special. The rooms were modern and clean. The bed was so comfortable that I had the best nights sleep in years! Will definitely return.

Disappointed in that the room stank of cigarette smoke on arrival. Had to leave the window open and remove cigarette butt from window ledge. Probably due a refurbishment of bedrooms.

Poor dining experience.
Hotel is spotless and comfortable.Staff are friendly and efficient and breakfast was very good. The only drawback was the evenings meal , which was probably the worst meal I have ever had. The menus were presented and withdrawn minutes later because there were problems in the kitchen. A piece of paper with approximately 4 choices was given so chilli was ordered.Chick peas and pellets of chicken was served in a sauce with rice. The other person had pie with a dollop of mashed potato ( no veg offered ). The fruit crumble was summer berries heated and sprinkled with a few crumbs. It was so liquid it could have been drunk. We had 3 glasses of wine and one pint of lager between us but the £75 was still excessive in view of the awful meal. Yes - we would stay again but never dine in the hotel.

another pleasant stay
I stay here fairly frequently as it is such good value in the winter. All the rooms have everything you need, proper hairdryer, iron, ironing board, safe, comfy seat, table , hanging space , kettle with mugs and plenty of plugs. The walls are a bit scuffed at the doors with cases being brought in and out but other than that the decor is acceptable. Plenty of parking though you have to pay, it used to be free so the charge is a disappointment. I had a nice bright room on the 4th floor at the floor as requested. This gave me a view of the pond and my car. I didn't have breakfast this time. Only a few niggles this time, the bedsheet had no mattress protector and there was an irritating button on the mattress which like the Princess and the Pea was a bit uncomfortable. There was a dirty washcloth lying on the safe. I assumed the maid had been disturbed and just forgotten it but it was still there the second night. The first day there was only decaf coffee sachets but there was some nice Earl Gray tea and some cranberry and raspberry so I had that instead. The second night plenty of coffee proper and decaf but no Earl Gray or Cranberry, lots of peppermint. What you get seems a bit haphazard but it all added to the fun. It was easy to adapt the heating to a level of comfort.

as potential
Has potential for being a really nice hotel, unfortunately it fell just a little short in the cleanliness, a little short in the comfort . However breakfast service was excellent and the dining room very well laid out with a great choice for breakfast. Drinks in the evening however are well overpriced and don’t really reflect the rest of the hotel Which feels dated

Overnight stay.
Good value hotel, although some attention to detail needed. Very clean and comfy, staff friendly and helpful. Menu could be a lot better, almost everything comes with chips, no salad option, very basic pub menu.

Wouldn’t use again
The hotel was acceptable for the cost. The room had the noisiest radiator I have ever heard and it was constantly banging and noisy. Maintenance did come to fix it and the 2nd night was just as bad as the first. We had to use earplugs we bought to give any respite. Parking was expensive and not mentioned in the details when searching for a hotel. Breakfast was literally self service with no one even telling us what was where etc.

Desperate need of updating
4 terrible nights sleep!! Radiators dont stop banging and clanking all night long, not to mention i could still hear the traffic outside even when the window was closed
