Good in so many ways but not quite perfect
This hotel is about 5 minutes drive from downtown Reykjavik or around 15-20 minutes on foot. It is also very close to the city airport (not the international one). You can park there without charge which is worth having if you are driving. I was in a refurbished junior suite. The room was of a reasonable standard, a bit sparsely furnished but had everything I needed with the exception of hair conditioner which is not provided. On my arrival, I was able to check in around 10:30am which I was very pleased about. I was less pleased about the large number of dead flies on the window ledges. These were swiftly removed by a staff member when I rang down to complain. The only issue I had with this room was its proximity to the lift and the noise at all hours. Apparently there is one suite on each floor and they are all in the same position. I was offered the Presidential Suite at the other side of the building, but this was in 1970s decor and quite shabby. I decided to stay put and use earplugs. Breakfast was included. There was a good selection and plenty for vegans like me. All in all, I would recommend this hotel. The upsides outweigh the few issues and it is a good base to explore Reykjavik and the rest of Iceland from.

Good 6.0
4* - not on my floor
The hotel is marketed as a 4-star hotel and the service definitely lives up to this, unfortunately the property itself does not. We stayed in a standard room on the 6th floor. We were shocked when we walked out of the elevator into the corridor. The hallway carpet was in a very, very poor state of repair. It was wrinkled up in many places and completely ripped in other places. Both problems presenting a serious trip hazard as well as a very poor impression of the hotel (more 1 star than 4 star). The room was fine, basic and dated, but fine. Some areas of the lobby were very well presented, but others such as the window and the mural on the wall up to the breakfast space were also very poorly maintained. There were big cracks in the window and parts of mural were crumbling. The wifi in the room was uneven too. I often went to the lobby to work to guarantee a reliable signal. I understand the hotel is in the process of being renovated and given the size of the property this is taking a long time. Nevertheless, I do think that it is not reasonable to market the property as if it has already been fully refurbished. I think the room prices should reflect whether or not renovation has been completed in that area of the hotel. This is the second time we have booked into an older Radisson Blu property and found this situation. The other time was in Oslo. It has rather put me off the Radisson Blu brand.

Exceptional 10.0
Comfortable and friendly
Iceland is amazing and the city centre is about a 30 mi Ute walkaway. The hotel itself is comfortable and as I was there for a conference at the university, it was very convenient. Wi-fi wasn’t always great though.
