Very good 8.0
The property is located in a great neighbourhood, close to many fun spots in London. We arrived after 3:00 p.m. and our room was not ready. We had to wait over an hour for it to be prepped. Disappointing after a long flight but they tried to make it right by providing us with free drinks while we waited. Once we were in our room, we were very pleased with the layout, the bathroom and cleanliness of the room. It was immaculate. Daily tidy up of the room was also very well done. While the Michelin restaurant was under renovation while we were there, we did have breakfasts in makeshift restaurant in the lower level. The service each morning was delightful and the food was decent.

5 star service in a great location
The location of this hotel, just off Piccadilly, was perfect for our trip and our deluxe room was very quiet & comfortable with a very large TV perfectly positioned to watch one of the Pay Movies in bed! Service levels, especially housekeeping, were excellent and staff were all friendly and welcoming. Only minor niggles: we had to ask for a kettle and mugs, the shower screen was much too narrow so water sprayed all over the floor when taking a shower, the duvet could have been wider (the bed itself was very comfortable), there were visible picture hooks on one wall so a picture had obviously been taken down and not replaced and there was missing piece of enamel in the bath. For a 5 star hotel these things were surprising but apart from the lack of a kettle not anything worth mentioning at the time (but perhaps the hotel should be aware that when you book 5-star you expect all the details to be of a particularly high standard). We didn't eat in the hotel as our plans meant we couldn't take advantage of the Michelin Star restaurant and we felt the breakfast cost was too high so ate locally each morning. Being central London the drinks were also pricey so we only had a non-alcoholic beverage while waiting on check in (we arrived early) and felt £9 per drink was a little too much for what was essentially a fruit juice (although we were given olives and nuts with them which was a nice touch). Be aware there is also a daily service charge added to your bill on check out.

Exceptional 10.0
St. James Hotel and Club Mayfair, Aug 8-12, 2019
I stayed in St. James Hotel and Club Mayfair between August 8 -12, 2019. The area is very central Mayfair, yet the hotel is very quite. It is a relatively small hotel, so it gives you this special feeling of personalized attitude from everyone. Service is excellent! Breakfast is served in the restaurant which is a Michelin-star My room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable, had everything, but was a bit small (smaller than what I expected), if we were 2 of us as originally planned - that would have felt uncomfortable. However on a positive side, I had huge balcony! One more point on the rooms - and in particularly on the bathroom - the shower is in the bath, and one need stepping stool to jump over into the bath .....

Exceptional 10.0
Quiet hotel, perfectly located
The St. James Hotel and Club is a small, boutique hotel on a very quiet street. We stayed in an executive King room. I did contact the hotel after I booked on Expedia to make sure our room would have an actual shower (not the "hand-helds" that are frequent in Britain and Europe). The hotel was able to honor our wishes. The room had good space. It had a very large walk-in closet with dressers and a full-length mirror. There was a nice desk area, a reading chair, mini-bar and safe and wall mounted TV. There was no coffee/tea making equipment in the room. The bathroom was small but nice. It only had one wash basin but had a separate tub and a small walk-in, rain-shower with a seat ledge. Of note is that there was about a 5" step up into the bathroom. The staff was very professional and pleasant. The public facilities are small buy nicely appointed. One nice surprise is that there is a small sitting room/parlour on the reception floor. The overall feel of the place is classic British, but it does have some interesting art and decorations that give it a contemporary vibe. The location couldn't be better for touring London. The palace area, government area and the shopping area are all within walking distance as are many of London's beautiful parks. Piccadilly Circus is just a short walk and the hotel is convenient to many of the tube stops on various lines.

Unexpected charges you need to be aware of
The hotel is in a great location and is very comfortable. However, a big shortfall is that there are no tea and coffee facilities in your room. After a very long day and journey to the hotel we had to order tea for two. This was £11.00 plus delivery charge. The teapot gave us a small cup and a half each. We thought this was a total rip off! On checking out we had another charge added to the bill for services (cleaning)!! Again another rip off! The breakfast on the first morning was £27.50 each so after paying the hotel bill of £597.00 for 2 days we had an additional £92.00 in chargers. We breakfasted at a nearby restaurant on the second morning. This tainted our view of an otherwise nice hotel. We would consider another hotel including breakfast as well as tea and coffee making facilities in the room next time we are in London.
