Noisy & Covid-19 compliant in most annoying ways
The bedroom window was broken, so it remained open. Which made noise from the city centre really disturb my sleep. No bedside tables, so couldn't place my phone next to the bed to charge or be my alarm. Had to place it on the desk at the front of the room, which meant getting out of bed when it rang or the alarm went off. Not being able to use the lift for floor 3, but somehow it could go to floor 4?! made the journey to my room, exhausting with my luggage. After travelling nearly 4 hours to get to Manchester, then having to park at the NCP a short walk away, but still having to carry my luggage from there to the hotel and then up the stairs, really did not make me a happy person. Don't know why they don't rather have the lifts go up and the stairs down if you really have to operate a one way system. Coming down the stairs with luggage is far better than going up them! With the hotel policy on wearing a mask when arriving, and when moving around, is sensible and it does seem to have all the measures in place to make guests feel safer. I appreciated the effort. The juice and milk in the breakfast bar, did not have any sanitiser wipes to clean the levers - but the coffee machines did?! Which didn't make much sense to be honest. If you want to do things right - get it right in all the important bits.

Neutral feelings about stay
Difficult times, stayed for 5 nights in Manchester, no room cleaning, breakfast served too late start at 7am, I needed to be on the road for 7am each day. No cleaning due to CV, still a good place to stay

Hotel was generally nice but ordered room service, the quality and flavour was non existent despite being well presented. Otherwise a good hotel and would stay again.

Was great to get away.
We always stay at Mal when in Manchester, it has a great central location for the shops and gay bars. They have done a great deal to ensure the safety of staff and residents post Covid lockdown. Front of house is smart and up-to-date. QR codes used for ordering drinks and looking at the food menu. we went for the Executive room with Kingsize bed. Other than the bed, the room didn’t scream executive, it felt small, and overlooked waste land. (Not that we were there for the view from the hotel window) nor did we plan to sit in the room all day. The toiletries have changed in that they are no longer available to take home. With dispensers being used for shampoo, body wash, and handwash - but still with the same great smell. Staff were friendly and all wearing face masks.

2 days from hell!
For an executive room it looked like a brothel. We also had no working air con. This was mentioned to hotel staff, we was told someone would look into it. They didn’t. We called again, someone came, told us they’d tried to work control panels and come back. They didn’t. We called again, was told to go to a standard room or use plug in radiators. A free hot chocolate was given to us but when they came; they were freezing cold. We was told someone would come up in the morning to look at it. They didn’t. We went down and asked to be moved, she told us it would be done within an hour. However we went out for around 3 hours. When we got back it still wasn’t ready. They keep trying to pie you off with cocktail vouchers. Room was better but then found the bottom of bed to have a dirty stain. We had food in the hotel on the Sunday night, they’d ran out of lots of stuff and took half an hour for a beer to come. It was just fault after fault.
