Such a disappointment. Was hoping for so more.
We spent a few weeks in London and stayed in several hotels, including another one on the next street over. I saved this one hoping to save “the best for last.” Check in went just fine and the lobby and adjoining rooms of the hotel were decorated beautifully. But that’s where the 5 star experience pretty much stopped. We had a deluxe room with a king bed (Room 329.) The room itself appeared just fine, the bathroom was large. They had placed a roll away in our room for our little boy. I asked them to remove it to allow for more space in the room and because I know, being out of town, he would just crawl into bed with us. When housekeeping came to take it out, she made a huge display of the inconvenience she suffered having to remove it. Additionally, the room’s floor itself was at a weird angle. You could literally not set a glass on the table without it rolling off. So uncomfortable. I get it’s an older building, but that’s ridiculous. We were given a filthy towel on our last evening that appeared to have been used to clean dirt and grime. The shower was stained with red mold and the window sill in the bathroom behind the blinds was covered in dust and dirt. Breakfast was inconsistent, one day coffee was served in a pot, not the next. Water was never refilled and no one brought other beverages when asked. All that said, kudos to Guido the doorman. He exemplified comfortable hospitality. Also, I appreciated the birthday wishes, but it wasn’t my birthday.

Quintessential English comfort w/ a delicious menu
Quintessential English comfort Is all over this lovely hotel. Everything from your first greet into the hotel with the lovely staff and sitting area to your checkout and location. My 11-year-old son and I stayed here after a two month adventure to 5 countries. We loved the area, the museums, the hop on hop off bus tours, Kensington Palace, Trafalgar Square area & the Tower of London. We only had three days but found time to always return to the hotel to have dinner. I know London has a lot of wonderful food but I could not resist the hotels menu. My son and I are both gluten-free and I was disappointed I’d be coming to London and not be able to enjoy fish and chips. When reading the menu I realized they had gluten-free fish and chips and they were delicious. You would never ever know they were sans wheat flour! The first night we arrived, it was about 2 o’clock in the morning in our reality (9pm London time). I put my son to sleep and I went downstairs and had the most divine Caesar salad (no croutons) with a crisp a glass of Sancerre! I was hooked, my server was Daniel and he became my server the next three nights. He was very welcoming and made me feel like I was always attended to with kindness and professionalism. The manager working at the time of our stays name started with a V. It was Victoria or Veronica spelled uniquely. I apologize for not remembering it exactly. She was lovely after she heard about our two-month adventure she gave us a bigger room. I will be back!

Never again: Survived two robbing crimes
After reading the reviews I had a positive vision of this hotel, so I booked room for 10 nights. The intention was to change the hotel after 5 days for renewal purposes. When I arrived I decided to cancel my reservation due to the very tiny classic double room. But they upgraded me and added the breakfast in my staying, so they held me to stay at their property. I survived in this hotel the following: 1- I have been robbed at my room during my absence two times!! The first time was cash money I left it in my personal purse after few hours of my check in, when I left for dinner. I reported it to this property, their answer was “We trust our employees as they worked for us years” the true fact is: there was no camera inside my room to capture the evidence. I reported this crime to the police as well. Unfortunately, I decided to stay in this hotel because I was sure there is no cash in my room. But its happened again! I have been robbed after 4 days of my staying. One of my personal things which costed my lots of money has been stolen from my room during my absence. I left after one week of my staying. After my ‘vacation mood’ has ruined. Honestly, the only thing that’s kept me staying in this hotel and not leave immediately after the first robbery is the nice attitude and hospitality of Mrs. Valerriia. But that’s doesn’t change the fact of unsafe feeling I was surviving in this hotel. 2- I woke up scared at 3:30 am during my stay for “Emergency alarm training”.

Disappointing
While we only stayed for one night, or about 20 hours before heading home after a 3 week European holiday, the best thing about this hotel was the doorman Martins, the Asian Concierge (his name escapes me) and the Bar supervisor (his name escapes me). From the front desk clerks to the drab and dirty-feeling rooms, it was a real disappointment. With that said, it was nice to have a bar in the hotel so that we didn't have to leave the hotel. The lounge area near the bar is also the best looking place I saw. The manager on duty was gracious and allowed us the choice of choosing an alternate room as the first room was not to our standard. The reception clerks at check-in were very snobbish and didnt pay attention to the details. I decided not to make a fuss because I was very tired and wanted to rest. The area is very posh and pretty with only white, well-maintained row buildings. If you do book a room here take advantage of the views in that area - nice area to walk through. There are eateries within walking distance, but shopping is a bit further. Harrods (along with other shops) is nearby (15-20 minute walk or 8 minutes if by car or bus). There is alot for me to say but the gist of it is that I will not return to this hotel. There are many other true to value 5 star hotel to choose from.

Good hotel, poor value for money
Hotel is a real mix of contrasts. Sometimes its like a 5 star hotel, yet just around the next corner it's more like a 3. Due to a previous guest being unwell our superior / deluxe room wasn't ready at 4pm and was told we would be in a classic room and we'll swap later on. This wasn't going to work for us, so we complained and got a suite upgrade for free so no swapping later needed. And boy am I glad it was a free upgrade. I would be furious if I paid for a suite and we got this room. Bathroom was perfect, can't fault it. However the rest of the room was closer to a deluxe / superior than a suite. Fairly small, 4 poster bed was a joke (thin, bare wooden frame) and the power socket fascia fell off (v. Poor maintenance). Everything else was fine and I would be happy if it was a deluxe / superior or classic, but if I paid for a suite I would have complained. Decor in the corridors is very dated, however rest of hotel is of good standard. Breakfast was great. Very expensive but good value for money. Service was generally excellent. Staff could have been a bit more friendly / spoken better English, but overall service was good. I would go back, but only if discounted / on offer. Hotel is reasonable to good overall, but poor value for money.
