Ray Hotel
Absolutely disgusting excuse for a hotel. Wouldn’t even let a Rat stay here. Complete room was filthy, stench of damp, mould everywhere, curtains ripped and didn’t close, waited 5 minutes to even check in as the receptionist was too busy trying to decide between KFC or Burger King for her dinner. Checked in and out within 15 minutes. The place should be closed down.

The location was excellent. A short walk to the bus station and the railway station. Overlooking the grand canal. A short walk to the main shopping street on the North side of the canal. Alas, the hotel was overpriced and run down. My room was cold throughout. I had no control over the room heating. At £77 per night I would expect a warm room. I asked for the heating to be turned up. This was denied. The room chandelier was pleasant, but only 3 of 5 bulbs were lit. The bathroom had loose wiring. The towel radiator was always cold. The furniture was clearly fine quality when new. But now it is faded to the bare wood. The was no elevator and the stair carpet fastening was loose. The bathroom tap water was always cold and would not heat up. The shower did work well. The TV had only one English channel. I spent the whole week (8 days) watching the "A team" and "Little house on the prairie". Lots of TV channels, but you would have thought with all the English speaking visitors that they would have more English speaking channels. It was very quiet and easy to sleep. The staff were helpful and pleasant, but hampered by upper management when any problems arise. I got an explanation of how the temperature of the rooms was determined by the date. This does nothing to warm me up. This was early November. I was sat in the room with my fleece coat fastened up to keep warm. There is nothing to put a visitor off more than being cold.

What a disaster. The room was so dirty and full of mold. The ceiling was full of bugs and the shower was full of mold It looked like they have not cleaned the hotel since 1812. Furniture was falling apart, curtains fell on our head and the cabinets in the hallway fell on our feet I never had bed bugs in my life. Woke up puking and have a number of bug bites on my arm and back The staff is rude, the room that they put us in was not representative of my booking. It was a small tiny room for two with two squished beds pretending to be a double, we booked a queen and got a 200 sqr foot room Only positive is it’s location. Overpriced for two nights.

Worn out and tired. Don’t go.
The was probably the dirtiest hotel I have seen. Dirty dusty carpet on the stairs up to the worn out tired rooms. The toilet flush was not working, there was an old sock over the smoke alarm and no shower holder for the shower head. The no daily cleaning of the room and when they did show up on one of our three day stay they didn’t replace the towels. The breakfast was poor with us finding one morning there was no clean empty tables and no food on the buffet table.
