Middletons Hotel
The worst two nights sleep I have ever had
This was the worst sleep I have ever had in a hotel. The room we were given (No. 24) was literally right next to the pavement and hence, very close to the road outside. The bedroom only had single glazed windows with very poor quality internal extra glazing. One of the internal glazing panels was missing and the noise from outside was very annoying. We could hear people chatting as they walked past on the pavement. So you can imagine how loud the noise of the traffic was. Although the road was relatively quiet every car and motorbike was loud enough to disturb our sleep until 2 in the morning. Also somebody put their tv on at 3 in the morning (Saturday)and we could hear them walking about upstairs. When we complained the man at reception said that he was staying overnight in room 23 next to us and agreed that he could hear the sound of people moving around upstairs. Please note this means that we were given a worse room that the staff overnight rest room. We were also disturbed by a lorry unloading in the road right next to the window starting at 06:30 on the Saturday morning and at 7:18 on the Sunday morning. Therefore, we hardly had any sleep at all on both nights.

Weekend stay, ghost walk.
Fantastic place to stay, great location. Will be going back. Recommend the ghost walk from the kings arms, Pat the guide made the walk, absolutely brilliant!!!

Very Good8.0
Small, cosy quiet hotel nicely located
Very nice small hotel - quiet room; comfy bed and super large shower. Would prefer a proper chair next to the desk rather than an uncomfortable stool.

Ok But Not As Advertised
This hotel was advertised as a group of historic listed buildings and they use pictures of such buildings, unfortunately you actually get to stay in the 1970/80s hotel complex. This was very disappointing as we were in York and always like to stay at interesting hotels, the car park was difficult to say the least and we were charged £10 to use it. When we asked to pay to leave the car there after checkout the next day so we could explore and were flatly refused (kind of the point of staying central) and had to pay £15 to use the local NCP. The room was adequate clean with a small window overlooking the car park. Its location was good with an easy walk to all the main attractions. In short it was ok value with an adequate clean room (great shower) but you could find better and I would say that it was kind of falsely advertised on the websites as you would expect to stay in a historic house.

Misleading photos
The photos are misleading. The room was tatty and run down, faded carpets, a bathroom that hasn’t been updated since the 80s, and a window overlooking the entrance to the carpark, so we had to keep the blinds shut. The car park also has extremely narrow spaces and it’s shared with a gym, so parking is limited
