The Scotsman was disappointing to be honest. Its a beautiful building in a great location but quality control issues taint the experience. We booked a junior suite and had two problems; Wifi that was super slow or unavailable depending on when you attempted to connect. Second there were (what I assume to be) tomato sauce stains, in the hallway, by the door, at the food of the bed and on the couch. I mentioned both issues to two different receptionist but the issues were corrected. No explanation or communication after either complaint. In my opinion the room should not be let in that state. I should be taken out of circulation and cleaned property. We saw another couple take the room directly after us so we know the carpets and couch were not cleaned again.

This hotel is beautifully presented and charming in a modern sort of way. The high ceilings give an impression of space and the chandeliers and decor in The Grand Cafe are impressive and welcoming. Our stay of 5 nights couldn’t have been more perfect for exploring Edinburgh. Our Reporter room gave us a good base with luxury bathroom and comfortable bed. The service was friendly and helpful from all staff members.

Booked for 50th birthday and 10th wedding anniversary and booked suite. Had issues with room (heating and internet) which couldn’t be fixed so were promised new room next day and reduction on room rate. Moved next day to smaller suite and had to chase for reduction on room rate on 2 occasions. We were never once offered anything as a gesture and no mention about our celebration weekend. Terrible customer service and put a real dampener on what should have been a special long weekend. Shame

My experience of this hotel from yhe moment we arrived until we left..we booked overnight stay with parking.there is No onsite parking facility at this hotel..when asked were would could park was told we could use NCP parking 4 minutes away at 25% Discount..my partner went to park car. 45 minutes later he called to say could not find car park..reception gave us car park post code..which after another 30 minutes. Still could not find car park..so parked another car park..we were given a free drink ..went out for dinner..picked up car thought we would try find the car park again we could not find..we tried calling reception..no one answered telephone over 40 minutes we went back to original car park. Back to hotel spoke reception they informed us telephone not working..went to bar at almost 11pm To be told residents bar closed at 11pm..it yhe worse experience ever..reception staff very poor. Not interested ..checked out this morning asked did we enjoy our stay by reception manger Said No Asked why explained our experience..she said she did not know why bar was closed?? And no report of telephone being out of use last night..she really did not know what to say to us. I would advise anyone looking to book this hotel to Avoid this place. Pooor Poor Dreadful communication

Hotel was lovely. Great position and our suite was big and nicely decorated. The only real negative is the size of reception and the single member of staff working there. First impressions weren’t great and we stood waiting for a long time to get checked in and subsequently anything else needed through reception. This is however a false representation of the hotel, which is magic apart from that.

Location perfect for access to the rail station, easy check in, excellent breakfast with service from friendly staff who were a real asset to the hotel. Clean, nicely furnished and decorated room. Would definitely recommend.
