Not 4 star only 3 at best

No parking, my husband had to sit in his car for two hours until one became available. Whilst I was left to deal with three suitcases, a couple of bags and two young children up and several flights of stairs with no help. Definitely not a family friendly hotel.

Mediocre.. & Car Park Fees on top!!

Had to call the hotel from the advertised car park to ask where I could park because of no spaces being available. Was told that there was a wedding on and there was another car park down the road. This cost me another £15 onto my stay which I wouldn't of had to pay. This annoyed me from the offset. To have to pay when others don't is not fair. We had no plans to be at the hotel other than to sleep anyway but wedding guests everywhere in the lobby during the celebration was slightly awkward ... not a showstopper though by any stretch. In-room was OK. Coffee machine and tea facilities were great. But little else to talk about. Hairdrier was present and a limited toiletry selection. In the morning I handed the key back and was given a good morning but no further 'how was your stay' at which point I would have aired my carp park grievances however thought best just to get out and get on with our day.

We like the older part of the hotel and were lucky enough to be in a room in it this time. The new block are also very good but conventional. Can be a problem with staffing the bar as the bar staff are often elsewhere doing things - a notice on the bar saying go to reception (25 feet away) if unattended would help.

    Nothing special

I booked two separate nights one in a superior room and one in a standard room i called the hotel the week before arrival to link the rooms so we didn't have to move. It was confirmed we would have the superior room. On arrival it was the standard room and they were fully booked. Standard rooms are basic and all the toilets have the worst flush ever barley useable. I wouldn't stay again needs a good facelift including bar and foyer

The history of the building, the quality of our rooms, the efficiency and friendliness of staff were all excellent. The only problem we had was to have a room on the third floor with no lift, heavy cases and both of us in our 70s.
