Worst Customer Service
I had a reservation for Saturday night. My first impression thus far was horrific. I do understand that I’m entering into New York where the culture is indeed different. This is my first time to New York and traveled five hours from VA to get here. When arriving to check in, I think the front desk manager’s name was Brandon or so he said he was the manager (later I found out he wasn’t) I stood there and just if anyone is going to assist me and check me in. Brandon then abruptly said, “Ma’am you’re being rude and do you not see me talking to my colleague?” I was literally stunned by what he said especially in a customer service hospitality industry. Brandon also gave my friend Ben (whose listed on this reservation as well) a hard time too. I do not understand why Brandon gave both of us a hard time. In my head I was thinking, is it my skin color, is because I may appear younger looking, is it because he is having a bad day, or 10 million other reasons why I didn’t receive the customer service I deserve to have like any other guest. Anyway we checked in and decided to go out when we came back the real manager apologized to us and tried everything she could to make it right, she offered us wine, etc but the damage was done. It’s so sad that when I do go back to NY i wont be going back here.

Very good 8.0
I really liked the interior decor of the room. The play of colors and lights is very refreshing, unlike many outdated hotels in the area. Orange and purple slippers. Perfume sachets in the drawers. Soap that does not melt easily when wet. Colorful artwork. The rain shower is excellent! On my second night, though, I felt itchy when lying down. I figured it was the bed sheet so I removed it, and indeed the itch was gone. Strange on the first night I didn't itch. I guess it could be the cleaning staff that didn't do a good job. Unfortunately, the itch travelled with me back home. Whatever it was (probably fleas?), it jumped to my suitcase so even at home, I got bitten still. The cleaning maids did not replenish toiletries as they should have. They seemed eager knocking on doors in the hope of getting tips from guests. There was a building being constructed so the air nearby was dusty. There were also a lot eateries along the street so piles of garbage which is an unpretty sight can be seen daily. One day there was a renovation going on starting at 9am and guests were not informed of this work in advance. And one last thing, it will be more reassuring if guests are given security cards to be able to access the lift to their room.

Good 6.0
Lovely hotel, Hardest beds award.
The Chambers hotel is a paradox: it's a lovely place. The staff were really, really lovely. The rooms was fine--clean and well appointed (except for some funky looking "slippers" that were sort of shoved beneath the bed. The bathroom was great and the bathroom fixings were also great. Oh, except, Ladies and long-haired men: this is one of those overhead shower heads that you can't escape and the shower cap they provide is *way* too small for people with lots of hair, which made for an interesting duck-and-dodge shower routine. All of that said: The bed was the absolute hardest bed I've ever slept in. Ever! Like a mat put onto of a concrete platform. It was so hard and so ridiculous that I actually laughed out loud because it was so absurd. Then I thought: "meh, maybe on the second night you'll have a different opinion." Nope. Hard. Alas, it will keep me from returning to this particular hotel, which is too bad since I'm in NY at least once a month, often more.

Exceptional 10.0
Great one night stay in the heart of NYC
I had arrived about 1am and was greeted by the front desk and offered complimentary water before being directed to my room on the 12th floor. Very nice staff even that late at night. The room was very clean and was a comfortable modern design which I enjoyed. The shower was a standing only waterfall type which I really enjoyed but if you want a tub you might need to ask specifically for a room that has that or go elsewhere. I was in town for an interview so I wasn’t too concerned with proximity to sights but Central Park was 2 blocks up and I was able to walk to Times Square on a cold day without freezing to the bone. Overall for a quick stay I really enjoyed it and if I were to come back I would certainly consider them again.

Exceptional 10.0
Luxurious rooms and friendly staff
The suite was huge with a living room and office area with a partner's desk. My colleague and I were able work together while she waited for her room to be ready (I got an early check in). The staff was very friendly. The mini bar provided excellent variety, the bookshelves were stocked with a ton of artbooks, DVD players and a movie loan library was available. The rain shower was the most amazing shower I've ever taken, it felt like being under a waterfall. The room was practically silent - no street noise or sounds from the elevator even though it was right next to my room. Can't wait to return. NB: The David Chang restaurants Ma Peche and Milkbar on site had delicious food but suffered from painfully slow and inattentive service, particularly at breakfast, when most people don't have time to spare (we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel). Fuku+ had the friendliest and most efficient service but a limited menu.
