Staff were second to none
Great location for relaxing stay. But with great walks along Pacific coast. The staff couldn’t t be more helpful We asked for a room move and after some great work at reception we were given a stunning view across the bay

Why would you stay anywhere else in San Diego!
The Catamaran Resort is now the only hotel I stay in when I travel to San Diego. I have tried many hotels now, but this is my fourth time at the Cat and I will always choose it from now on. The location is brilliant, right next to Mission Beach, but also on its own bay. The restaurant overlooks the bay and is beautiful to eat at. It's pretty much the closest you come to actual being able to eat and drink "on the beach" in San Diego. The hotel itself is great - the staff are extremely friendly, the grounds are beautiful and the rooms are in-keeping with the resort features. Some rooms are maybe looking a bit tired with the wallpaper, but this is a very minor thing. The beds are very comfortable, the facilities are great, you get pretty good wifi (with the option to purchase super-fast if you need it - standard/free is about 3mbps). The self parking charge is $26 per day - however the streets surrounding the Cat are actually free to park for anyone (no permit required), but TAKE NOTE of the notices explaining the days the street sweepers come - you are not allowed to park on the streets then and your car will be towed. All in all I have nothing negative to say about the Catamaran Resort. It's a brilliant hotel. An uber/lyft/taxi to Gaslamp will cost about $15 one way, worth it to not worry about driving! But plenty of restaurants and bars walking distance.

Great location
Booked and paid way in advance asking for garden view room explaining we were travelling from U.K. for our 50th birthdays. Got given top floor room in tower block looking at car park! We don't like heights so this put us off from the start. When we made a comment about this on hotels.coms initial email asking how check in went the hotel emailed me so I explained my disappointment but they never responded! However overall location of hotel is fantastic so in our short time in SD we could get out and see so much. Grounds are lovely, everything is kept so clean and well maintained. Quite a wow factor when you first arrive and walk into reception with their cascading waterfall. Couple points to note: Drinks way overpriced at pool bar and to have to pay for any bottle water you use in your room is a rip off. This was our sixth hotel on our tour of California and only hotel not to leave you fresh bottles daily, for free! They also didn't update the coffee pods daily so 3 in total between two of us for 3 nights seems very stingy. It's the little extras that can go along way to make up for other things, but none of this was offered. We wanted late check out but again this was a ridiculous charge for just 2 extra hours in the room. However, We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone as the positives do outweigh the negatives, it's just worth being aware of them.

Rooms in a bad shape
The hotel is very old. We had to change rooms twice upon arrival in order to have a room where the room door as well as the door to the balcony could both be opened and closed properly. Coffeemaker was broke and got replaced quickly. My complaint about the shower never got taken care of. Taking a shower was like being punchec by 1'000 needles. This hotel definitely needs some remodeling!
