Fabulous 8.8 From 1,028 reviews

Very good 8.0
The room was a good size. Fit two adults and a teenager with room. Showers were very nice and big, water was hot, pressure was good. We were there over a London heat wave so the "air cooling" did not do much to help the 91 day heat and 75 degree night time heat. Having to keep the windows open was very loud for sleeping too. Lighting in the bathroom could be better. Kind of dark. Breakfast, bar, and food were all great!

Very comfortable and well located hotel
When we first booked this hotel, I had a few apprehensions about staying in Southwark because I didn't know much about the area. I kept looking for places in Mayfair and SOHO, but I wanted to be more centrally located to all of the attractions including Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. We also wanted to make it over to Greenwich so I didn't want to be on the opposite end of the city. I'm happy to say that this location was perfect. Just a block or so from the Thames, and had the added bonuses of being very close to Shakespeare's Globe and a short walk across the Millennium Bridge straight to St. Paul's Cathedral. It's also right next to Borough Market, and a short walk to the London Bridge Underground station. London, BTW, has the greatest public transportation system I have ever ridden. From this location, you have access to all of London and the surrounding areas plus it's a bit quieter and less crowded than Westminster. The Novotel at this location is a 4 star +. Nice sized rooms, very clean and updated. The staff was very kind and helpful. Even the bar called Clinks in the lobby was top notch. I'm more of a traditional pub type, but Clinks can make more complex cocktails if you're so inclined. Speaking of pubs, the Anchor is a traditional English pub (built in 1615, I think) right up the street along the Thames. It is awesome! It was truly my local, during my stay. I would have no problem staying here every time I come back to London.

Very good 8.0
Location seemed central to everything, which is important when you spend most of your time in metered taxis. English breakfast continues to impress. Grateful for the early check in accommodations and having the sofa bed all made up for my 9 year old. Only drawback was there was no maintenance staff available to address the showerhead issues over the weekend, but to their credit, they immediately offered me another room (my 9 year old figured out how to rig it, so we decided to stay where we were. Too much to pack and unpack).

Good 6.0
Unfortunate and disappointing
Slightly disappointed- the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and spilled out over onto the carpet of our room causing a huge soggy mess, this was before either of us could even have a shower! When we phoned down to request some towels to clean up the housekeeper said that this happens to all the rooms!!! not exactly filled us with much confidence! We phoned down again after trying the shower once more and the same issue occurred, there was no way we could do shower without flooding the whole room. The DM allowed us to change rooms, which was nice, however incredibly inconvenient. The room we were moved to was very odd! There was no bathroom “room” the sink was in the open plan room, next to the bed? Not ideal, noise wise! Then the next morning a housekeeper just opened the door and tried to come in around 9am (before check out) without knocking!! Luckily we were already up and dressed!! Otherwise could have been very awkward!!! The breakfast was cold and the fruit soggy and probably been left over from days before! Overall I wouldn’t stay here again, not impressed one bit! The staff we dealt with in reception were all lovely- restaurant customer service was non existent as with the Housekeepers. Would love to receive some feedback about this.

Good 6.0
Great staff and location but poor condition
Hotel location was good, staff service was excellent and very understanding and accommodating despite bad room conditions. 2 rooms for 4 nights. Room 1 had to be changed twice because of unbearable stink in room and non working AC. Room 2 had to be changed once because of unbearable stink. Seemed like backup of drains. Toilet was backing up. Washbasin was not draining in new room and never fixed by maintenance. Despite all of this staff was very understanding and even provided upgrade with breakfast for 2 days of the 4.
