About this property

Atypical escape in the reclusive island within Iceland's longest river, the glacier river Þjórsá.

The spotless and pristine landscape captivates the senses. Just step out on the stupendous greenery, feel the tingling and the breath is taken away. It's not only the location that is delightful, but the Mongolian yurts are also storytellers. The unusual amenities, that ensure one of a kind break from a hectic life, are perfect for the happy living seekers.

3 Snug and cosy yurts sufficiently distanced securing privateness. The eco-friendly constitution of the yurts ensures a close connection with nature. The yurts are windowless but the roof ring dome provides light rays to shine in. The warmth is secured with woollen insulation and gas heating in every yurt.

The owner and the only inhabitant of the island can be reached in case of emergency. You can always reach by email or phone.

The only way to reach Traustholtshólmi is by car. Rental cars can be rented at Keflavík International Airport and we recommend the drive through Reykjavík and later on Hveragerði and Selfoss until you turn down from Road 1 to the road leading to Traustholtshólmi's closest parking lot and boat pick-up location. Hákon, the only inhabitant of the island with his dog Gutti, will be saluting the guests on the banks of river Þjórsá. The guests will be transferred to the island by the zodiac boat, and the ride is a few minutes long.

Last but not least, what is worth visiting nearby?

You can pick out of the extensive list:

Glaciers section:

-Eyjafjallajökull, one of the smaller ice caps of Iceland, north of Skógar and west of Mýrdalsjökull, is located 87 km away. The ice cap covers the caldera of a volcano with a summit elevation of 1,651 metres. The volcano has erupted relatively frequently since the last glacial period, most recently in 2010.

- 106 km distanced is Sólheimajökull glacier in southern Iceland, between the volcanoes Katla

and Eyjafjallajökull. Part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier, Sólheimajökull is a prominent and popular tourist location owing to its size and relative ease of access.
Lake section:

- Lake Þingvallavatn anglicised as Thingvallavatn, is a rift valley lake in southwestern Iceland. With a surface of 84 km² it is the largest natural lake in Iceland with the greatest depth of 114 m. It is placed 63 km away.

- 66 km far from our property, Lake Laugavatn contains geothermal springs under its surface, making it a popular swimming spot with some warm patches along the shoreline year-round.

Waterfall section:

-Seljalandsfoss waterfall, located in the South Region in Iceland, can be found 69 km away. The waterfall drops 60 m and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull.

-2 min away from the Seljalandsfoss, the Gljúfrabúi waterfall can be visited. Gljúfrafoss or Gljúfrabúi is a small waterfall north of the larger falls of Seljalandsfoss in Iceland. The falls are partially obscured by the cliff rock, but hikers can follow a trail to enter the narrow canyon where the water plummets to a small pool.

Mountain section:

- Mt. Hekla or Hecla, a stratovolcano in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 m, can be discovered 96 km away from our property. Hekla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell".

Enjoy the magnificent landscape!
