About Spyglass Inn

Beachfront hotel with ocean-view restaurant, outdoor pool

Steps from the surf

Perched on a bluff above the Pacific Ocean, the March 2015 renovated Spyglass Inn is a 2-minute walk from the sand, surf, and sunsets of Shell Beach and a 2-minute drive off Highway 101. The Pismo Beach Pier is 4 miles south, and Edna Valley wineries are about 10 miles inland.

Hearst Castle, aquarium

Hearst Castle, a scenic hour's drive, is an architectural treasure filled with art from around the world, and tours are offered daily. Sea life in Avila Bay is on display and in touch pools at the Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach, a 7-minute drive.

Heated pool and hot tub

The Spyglass Inn Restaurant serves up California cuisine and local wines, complemented by spectacular ocean views - you might even spy a whale from the heated patio. There's a hot tub and outdoor pool for a relaxing dip, and beach umbrellas for picnics and naps in the sand.

Free WiFi, premium TV

The 82 spacious rooms include free WiFi and flat-screen TVs with premium channels; some rooms feature oceanview balconies. You can listen to your own tunes on the iPod® docking station, enjoy a snack from the mini-fridge, and brew a cup of gourmet java in the coffeemaker.

    Lovely location.
A really nice hotel. Doesn't look all that as you enter the courtyard/car park area but that is deceptive. Our rooms were on the Beachfront side of the property. Very nice sized room with doors leading to a patio looking out over the sea. The room had a King-size bed that was soooooo comfortable it was almost indecent. The Hotel has a number of "Firepits" in front of the beach. These are lit in the evening and are a great place to meet with friends and have a drink as the night draws in. Nice Bar and restaurant with a number of other eating places nearby.

Only one night. Room was very nice inside but some with sea view much better externally. Bit outside Pismo so car required as not a lot of activity close. Inn on site has lovely views of bay.

    Pismo Dunes
Room overlooked corridor and pool/car park area. We could also see the sea. Although room was on road side, it didn't have a window in that direction and so no road noise. Sea View rooms cost considerably more for August but 2nd floor had lovely views. Nice pool area with Jacuzzi. Fridge and tea/coffee maker in room. Nice bathroom area. Comfy beds and nice spacious rooms. Nice restaurant connected to hotel with nice views out to sea - busy around late afternoon until sunset. We went to Pismo to quad bike on the dunes. August is busy and we were there at a weekend. I dragged my kids out of bed at 7 to arrive by 8 (3-4 miles drive from hotel). It still took until 10 for us to be setting off on the dunes. It was an excellent move - as by the time we were getting back the beach was packed out. Large queues to be sorted onto bikes and transport across beach was full (empty when we went out). It was also hot then and VERY busy on the dunes - not good for safety. So set the alarm - it's worth it!
