Central hotel in London, close to major siteseeing
Excellent location, directly across street from Blackfriars train station. Close to Thames river and associated activities if interested in walking and exploring the area. We chose to take Hop-on-Hop-off bus for exploring. Closest stop is at St Paul's Cathedral which is a minute walk from hotel. Strongly recommend getting Oyster card if taking subway system, £5 deposit and remaining balance on card is fully refundable once you are finished with the card and it is much cheaper than buying single ride tickets. The hotel front desk staff were excellent, polite and professional at all times. Breakfast buffet good value if included in room price, satisfactory selection of items. The hotel left a card in room stating that they strive to provide service that is 10/10 and if you feel there are any issues they would like the opportunity to make it right. I don't think the housekeeping staff got that memo, service was minimal. The bathroom was not cleaned the first day and we were not provided with new supplies, the next day, the used coffee cup and ice bucket were exactly where we left them, the bathroom was cleaned and restocked, but 'complimentary ' items, coffee and biscuits weren't restocked. My friends and I figured we were placed on the 'Expedia' floor, discounted room resulting in discounted housekeeping. That was the only negative aspect of this hotel but I would not hesitate to stay at that hotel again. It was my choice not to bother to complain at that time.

Poor 2.0
Avoid this Hotel!
Advice: Avoid this Hotel and look for other options! Experience: Everything was a disaster. Check in took forever to complete. Facility: Lifts have bumps, peeling paints, clocks not on time. Corridor carpets are dirty. Room was not clean, towels had yellow stains, plenty of dust above the shower. Poor quality toilet paper. Small TV. Poorly insulated, you can hear corridor/neighbours. Noisy climate control with freeze or heat option. Shower, trying to set a comfortable water temperature is impossible. Incidents: Fire alarm going on at about midnight, rude receptionist and no apology, housekeepers kept trying to get in the door (regardless of the do not disturb sign) happened 3 times. Management: Mrs Sara Pires is the manager of hotel and she does not live up to the reputation of this chain. Asked to speak to the management multiple times, they did not show up, receptionist called them by phone and repeated to me what she said over the phone. Never called me back as promised. I seriously hope Mrs Pires will be replaced by a real manager. Does not care about customers, no helpful, not willing to help. Positive: Quick check out, kind concierge who helped carrying the luggage to the taxi. Conclusion: I am sharing my bad experience and telling all the people I know to avoid this hotel at all costs. It's a shame to pay this money for such a bad hotel, honestly it is not even as good as the average B&B. They will keep hearing my voice about them for ages!

Very good 8.0
Location location location.
The good: (a) What makes this hotel an ideal choice is its LOCATION, its outstanding, PLUS with a train/metro station right in front of the hotel you can travel direct to Gatwick airport in 58 min. Traffic in London is CRAZY and very frustrating, so getting around via metro is a great/smart alternative. (b) In house Italian restaurant is very good with great service but a little bit pricey. (c) Rooms are small for USA stds but a good size for Europe Stds. (d) Bathroom is clean and adequate in size, ours had a bathtub (a tall one, not easy to get in), asked if they had a room with only a shower, they said no. (e) Both concierge guys that I had contact with where great and helped me book a bus tour and print some tickets. (f) Free apples. The bad: (a) Exactly right next to our room the hotel was having some work done, so forget sleeping in, noise started early, dust everywhere in the corridor, doors and carpet, which by the way was never cleaned, stayed like that all day; we were never notified about this prior to our arrival or even after we had arrived. (b) Asked to change rooms, manager said no, which in understandable but his tone, demeanor, body language and total lack of empathy (my youngest son has asthma issues and the constructing dust was horrible, I made him aware of this) was very very discouraging, he and his employer didn’t get the memo, that he works in the h o s p i t a l i t y industry, a smile with an understanding tone goes a long way. (c) Gym is small.

Nope, not staying here next time
Not staying again. Much prefer paying a few more pounds to stay at The Saint Paul Grange. The Crown plaza was disappointing. The front desk staff implied I was being rude when I ask them to repeat themselves due to the lobby acoustics. WiiFi costs money to use my own phone, but they did provide a mobile in the room for local attraction for free (I prefer to use my own & feel the hotel shouldn't charge extra). The room was spacious, but the quality and price did not match up (I've stayed in many London hotels). The bed was comfortable and clean, but the back of the bathroom door was dirty and the sink drain was clogged, but to be fair, housekeeping fixed when I left a note on the sink. The bath tube was a real challenge for me at 5-4 and my husband 6-4. The lip of the tub was about 25 inches off the floor (mid-thigh on me). We are hikers and lean, but still not safe to get in and out (I used my flip flops to keep me from slipping). The room curtain had some chocolate or something smeared on it. Sorry to be such a downer, but wanted to be honest about our experience.

Never again!
So initially when booking this hotel, I was looking forward to my stay, it was for a birthday, which I had actually called the central reservations desk to advise, and they assured me they had contacted the hotel to make them aware, so something special could be done,on arriving the hotel was unaware of this request and stated they received no notification, you would think they would offer to do something now that I have told them it was for a birthday, but nothing, also placed us in a room next to a staircase where there was constant noise throughout the night, and to top it all off, charged me twice, once through hotels.com and then crowne plaza decided to take another £156, on asking why this had happened, they claim it’s a security measure incase the initial payment had failed! For one, when arriving at the hotel they had told me the room had been paid for already and if you were going to take another payment? Make me aware! Instead of just taking it! And then telling me I would have to wait 3-5 working days for a refund which was no fault of mine!! not happy at all
