Perfect for Manchester Central
Stylish northern hotel. Upgrade to the rooms with balcony for a suite experience. Clean, bright, well equipped, cool bar and excellent food. The gym is excellent with adjacent pool and spa. Strongly recommended, as good as any hotel this traveler has stayed in...And comes with history, sited behind the facade of the old Free Trade Hall which itself stood on the site of the Peterloo massacre. If you were schooled in Manchester, you probably went to prize days or speech days where now this hotel stands.

Good 6.0
Nice place, but not up to 5 star standards
Spent a couple of nights here for our anniversary. Nice comfy beds and good bedding, decent size rooms for the price in a lovely building, friendly staff, and a lovely spa area to relax in. Carpet and blinds in rooms looking a bit dated and damaged, but nothing major on that side. Unfortunately, there was a major issue with the bathroom - the room had a wet-room style shower, but the drainage was so poor that after showering, most of the bathroom floor was a massive puddle that wouldn't drain, and the bathroom became difficult to use. Flagged this up as we were heading out on our first morning, staff said maintenance would be sent, and we were told on our return that it had been fixed. Unfortunately, exactly the same issue the next morning before we checked out. We mentioned it and the staff member did offer free breakfast on our next stay or some free drinks then- unfortunately neither was great for us as we were heading off then, and aren't likely to be back in town soon. We were asked to provide contact details so a manager could contact us, but one week later have heard nothing. The rooms have a bedroom space and the bathroom, and when one of those is so poor, you feel that it's not up to the 5 star level and price that it has. We gave them time and opportunity to resolve the issue, but a week on with no response, it appears like this isn't all that important to them.
