Great location near Borough Market
My husband and I booked this hotel for our first time in London. We wanted to be in a good location without being in an area like Piccadilly. The location near Borough Market was convenient and fun. The hotel’s breakfast was VERY helpful and good. The breakfast staff was always there to replenish and clean tables as quickly as they could. When we checked-in we took our chances for an early check-in and were immediately welcomed at the door. The room was a bit smaller than what we are used to in the US, but it was clean and had what we needed. The bed was roomy and comfortable after long days of exploring every inch of London we could! They supply a shampoo/body wash combo which did the job but no lotions or conditioners. There were body towels (one per person) and a bathmat, but if that’s all you need then that is perfect. It’s definitely not full of frills, but it works because they are not wasteful. I can appreciate that. Some quirky things we noticed- one tiny refuse container was a bit inconvenient and no tissues boxes. Luckily we had tissue packets in our bags. We also asked a hotel staff member if they sold stamps or knew where to purchase them but we were met with a bit of a blank stare and was directed to a postal drop. We eventually found them at a convenience store. We were overall happy with our experience at the Ibis Southwark. We would consider returning to this hotel our next time back in London.

Few little niggles but otherwise good
Loved the style of the downstairs bar/reception area. Staff were very friendly. Wifi was excellent. Unfortunately the phone in the room didn't work which would have been fine if there weren't other problems that made me need to use it! The bathroom only had hand towels. The shower gel dispenser was broken and shower gel wasn't even left on the side. The AC was not working either. Even if it wasn't an extremely hot night in London, I personally like to sleep in a cool room so it wasn't a comfortable sleep for me I'm afraid. Last thing may seem silly and maybe it was because I was tired and a bit irritated in the morning but the staff at breakfast...a bit much! I understand they've been told to be attentive but it was a bit over the top. Overtime I got up to get a coffee or a yoghurt etc, I'd come back to an empty table! I'd only be gone a matter of seconds. Just think they need to chill out more. It's not the army! Despite many negative things and it being very expensive on the night I stayed, I probably would stay again as the location was great for me and I did love the decor in the bar.

CHECK-IN: Process was smooth. I arrived early but room was not ready so they stored my bags while I grabbed an early lunch. It would be helpful to have the times of brkfst written down on the sleeve for the key card esp since it is diff on weekdays vs weekend. // ROOM: Small but functional. I msg the hotel prior to my arrival requesting a quiet room with an extra blanket to be placed in my room and sure enough, I didn't hear any neighboring guests & my extra blanket was folded nicely on the bed waiting for me. Bathroom was clean but the stand-shower is small (bumped my elbows sev times). The only toiletry provided was a 3-in-1 hand soap/body wash/shampoo gel. // BRKFST: Good selection of pastries, toast, hard-boiled eggs, cold cuts, sweets, juices & teas/coffee. It was tasty but since its the same every day, it can get boring. I do like that the teas/coffee area is open 24/7. Nice to grab a cup on hot cocoa or warm tea before turning in. I also appreciate that minimal plastic ware or paperware available so the hotel is environmentally conscientious. Didn't drink at the hotel bar but seemed nice. // LOCATION & SECURITY: In the heart of South Bank. Very close to 3 tube stations (Borough, Southwark & London Bridge) and diff bus stops. Walkable to Borough Market, Tate Modern, or stroll along the Thames. I traveled alone as a single lady and felt safe. Nice feature that only key cards can grant access to the hotel elevators. // OVERALL: Would stay again. Hope this review helps!

Fair 4.0
The lobby is definitely fun and unique because it’s so different from any hotel within the norm. Check was not too confusing for us, as others stated but we arrived after 10pm so there wasn’t a queue either. A staff member popped out of the office and asked us if we were checking in, greeting us around the piano with a little iPhone to tap away on. That was quick - just a few minutes and we had our keys. Our room was 606, and smelled horribly of sulfur and our air conditioning unit was not working properly. It was blowing warm recycled air and not cool despite it being on high fan, and on the coldest setting. Then the A/C unit stopped all together, then the toilet starting running and wouldn’t stop so that it could be used. We tried to tap the button to reset the flush but it wasn’t working and the loud water was just running constantly in the toilette. We thought we’d have to run to the lobby just to use those facilities. I called down to the front desk to inform them of all these issues and they said there was nothing they could no because it was so late at night, and when I had asked for another room I was told “another room is not possible”. I tried the toilet a few more times and it finally stopped running after nearly 40min which wasn’t awful I guess - so then it was usable again. The sulfur smell was still so pungent from the bathroom - I think from the shower drain. It was hard to take-in as we slept. This hotel is not an inexpensive option; very disappointed.

Amazing Stay!
ibis Styles definitely surpassed our expectations - we were greeted right away when we entered and the check in process was smooth. This was the last stop of our 3 week trip and we were honestly exhausted (especially with a few previous - not so great hotels). We had a handwritten welcome card with a bottle of wine to celebrate our honeymoon laid out on our bed, with a pair of swans - it simply made our day! Huge kudos to the team there! The room was on the smaller side but it was well kept, clean, and very comfortable! The breakfast included was also great as well, there's a generous selection of beverages (coffee, tea, juices), a variety of bread and spread, baked goods, fruits and savoury items. We were able to kick start each morning with a good breakfast before heading out. Location wise, we're south of the river, so it does mean a bit more walking than if we stayed somewhere closer to all the attractions and landmarks. The nearest tube station is about a 7-10 minute walk away which isn't too bad once we figured out which exit was the closest to the hotel. Overall, this was a great hotel to stay at, and we'd definitely come back again!
