Exceptional 10.0
Stayed for one night at the hotel. Got upgraded to a suite on the 7th (top) floor with an excellent view over the (Faxafloi) bay. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and nice and the shower fantastic. Highly recommendable.

Would stay again.
Hotel staff so friendly nothing was to much trouble. A little bit out of the center could walk in took about 25 minutes easy walk. Hotel looks like getting a refurb main areas all modern and fresh room floors and rooms tired but specious and clean.

It's kind of disappointed with room. Much less morden than I expected. Slightly further to the town. The spa is quite small but the reception is friendly.

A great hotel for our 4 night trip
Extremely comfortable with excellent staff and very good food. The beds were exactly the right degree of firmness and our superior room was spacious with plenty of storage. The enormous radiator was extremely effective at heating the room and was easy to control. The only things that let the room down were the state of the sofa bed whose seat cushions were badly stained, the carpets which had a number of stains on and the bathroom which was well-equipped and with a good shower, but which was old and therefore had ingrained black mould marks in the silicone sealant. The only English TV channels were Sky News and a random horse owning/show jumping one which seemed a very bizarre choice. The location is a good long walk into the town centre and as it was cold and snowy some of the pavements nearby were treacherous under foot. The hotel tells us that some local businesses have failed to instal under pavement heating outside their premises although they are required to by law. The hotel itself was ice free. Being on a hill also made it nerve-racking to get to the bus stops down the hill. The wi-fi was irritating in that it often cut out, but when it was working its speed was adequate for our purposes. Overall we were very pleased with the value, comfort and service that the hotel offered. Another plus point is that it has an enormous number of lifts dotted about and it meant you never had to wait to get one.

Clean and comfortable stay in Reykjavik
Stayed at the Hotel Island for 5 nights over New Year. The hotel was clean, comfortable and adequate for our needs. The rooms are dated but clean and comfortable but the discrepancy between the lobby area and the rooms is noticeable in terms of decor. You definitely need a hire car to stay here; do not consider this hotel if you are not hiring a car; it is easily a 30 minute walk to the centre of Reykjavik at a brisk pace. In terms of our stay, the bar was almost always closed which was very disappointing and Happy Hour drinks were limited to house wine or draft beer. I’d expect the bar to be at least 12 hours if not 24 to be honest, particularly as the reception staff are working 10 feet away from a dark and closed bar when all we needed was a drink at the end of a long day. All in all, we would stay here again because it is reasonably priced, but why they don’t keep the bar open is a mystery to us.
