Felt like a second-class customer....
From check-in to check-out, this hotel needed serious help. I requested a king bed, and didn't get it. When I inquired as to why, the front desk person (a terribly unhappy and unhelpful person who rolled her eyes at every request, kept her earbuds in at all times until she HAD to take them out to talk to a customer) told me that there was nothing available and that I should have booked through the hotel directly vs. using Expedia. The room was dirty and tired, with many stains on the furniture, old peeling paint, and ugly décor. When I arrived in my room, there were two maintenance men still in the room - they were upstairs caulking the toilet. No one seemed to be too concerned that I was given a key to a room that 1) wasn't ready, and 2) contained strangers. I called to tell them about the stained furniture (concerned we would be charged), and the front desk person said that she already knew about it - that the management was making plans to renovate. Wow - that made me feel special. Late that night, I was unpacking and opened the bathroom cabinet (which looked like it was from the 1980s - the doors did not close properly). It was absolutely disgusting...mold, dirty, wetness, and a toilet plunger wrapped in a trash bag. I told the girl in the morning that I wanted it cleaned, and she said she would tell maintenance. I returned 8 hours later, and nothing had been done. Maintenance did come (and he was REALLY nice...poor guy), but they weren't able to fix it.

Fantastic Character & Charm-Highly Recommend!
Wow, does this place have character-in a good way! We have stayed at some of Charleston's finest hotels, but we would choose this place again. The two-story unit has a bedroom/full bath on top floor, and a living/dining room with sofa bed, plus a galley kitchen with full-size appliances (including a 12-cup coffee pot with two coffee packs) on the first floor along with a 1/2 bath. The location is fantastic in the French Quarter--with it historic buildings, awesome restaurants, and waterfront. Everything is within easy walking distance, including the City Market, just 50 feet away. Our favorite restaurants (Magnolias, Fleet Landing, Vendue Rooftop Bar) also only a few block's walk. The hotel has a concierge full of good ideas for the first-time traveler. Parking garage is only a block down, $20/night in/out priv, but could be free for your stay (plus $100) if you listen to a 90-minute real estate spiel (we didn't). Bed sizes vary, but we requested and got a king-size bed, so do ask what is available. The desk staff was super-helpful, particularly Amber, and despite what I read on some other reviews, our room was made up every day promptly and nicely. Satellite TV up and down, free Wi-fi was fast and powerful enough to drive our Apple TV. The stairs are a little steep, so if you have mobility problems, probably not the place for you. Two doors down is Bitty and Beau's, a VERY special coffee shop that hires special needs employees (top CNN Hero this year)-do not miss!

Elegant comfort in historic Charleston
I loved my room at Festiva's Church Street, Charleston! The price was reasonable, yet having a separate sitting area and a big bedroom felt very luxurious. I was attending a conference near the College of Charleston, so it was an easy walk to the conference and restaurants. If I'd had more time, I would have loved to do one of the horse drawn carriage tours that operate in the area. The staff were all friendly and helpful and willing to hold onto my suitcase while I was at the last day of the conference. The only thing that could make this better would be to offer a continental breakfast. However, since the kitchens have a full refrigerator, I was able to buy some breakfast food and avoid the time and expense of going out for breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel!

Very good 8.0
Very nice place to stay in an excellent location.
This is a nice Inn with many desirable features. It has local charm while providing modern conveniences and a positively great location. It was comfortable and the staff was accommodating, especially the concierge. The only negative for my sister and I was the upstairs-downstairs configuration, which was not mentioned in the description we read prior to booking. My sister is significantly disabled and I have physical issues as well, so having a bedroom on the lower floor, with the sitting room and kitchen on the upper was difficult for us. It was also a little dark, although that was likely due to paint choices selected to maintain the ambience. The apt. was located right on Market Street central to the market and was ideal, as it seemed everywhere we wanted to go was within walking distance or pick-up was provided.

Good 6.0
Nice place, bad staff
This Inn is located near the Market, so a convenient location. The carriages go by regularly, so the smell of horses can be strong at times. The Inn is nice and the room was clean. Have a small kitchen is a real plus. Unfortunately, the Inn is not well-run or managed. When I checked in I had to wait until someone went upstairs to see if the room was ready. Then they looked it up to find out it wasn't occupied the night before. This was OK; not great, but OK. However, on the day I was leaving I asked if I could check out at 11:30 rather than 11. I was rudely told that they had to clean all of the rooms and that 11 was the best he could do (which I pointed out was the stated check out time). I left a meeting early to check out before 11 and was told by the person checking me out that I could have checked out until noon, and they do that routinely. I hope others have a better experience with the staff.
