Very good 8.0
Fantastic room. Main hotel a little tired.
Great room thanks to a free upgrade. Lots of space in the main area and a separate bedroom. Breakfast was OK, nothing better. Limited selection and cooked options were passable. Porridge was not! Pool area nice but needed a clean. Would definitely use again. Overall the place is very close to being a fantastic hotel in a great location. It just needs to upgrade the breakfast and the service.

Good 6.0
Disappointing
Cleanliness was a little above average. Housekeeping was disappointing water, fruit, hot drink tray and toiletries were not refilled. Service was slow because of a lack of staff.

Okay, but could do so much better
Great location, lovely old building. Room was way too hot and the breakfast was awful.

What a view.
It was very enjoyable and relaxing. We were made very welcome by the reception staff and the waitress (hope she has a lovely healthy baby by the way). The evening meal was delicious. Day 2 and breakfast was a disappointment. One cold mushroom and incredibly fatty black pudding both of which we left did not add value (although the cost of this was refunded with an apology although they did say one mushroom is the norm?) however the continental spread was enjoyable. There wasn’t a great deal of choice but it was enjoyable. The breakfast waiter made us feel very uncomfortable and is the reason we marked service down. When I was asking for runny eggs I felt bullied into answering a question I didn’t know the answer to and he wouldn’t accept I didn’t know and made me feel small and rather stupid which didn’t add value to my morning. Everyone else however was lovely. The weather was atrocious so we stayed in the hotel for some hours before checking out and were made to feel very welcome there with delicious and inexpensive tea and coffee and Sunday papers on a sofa which couid do being replaced but was comfortable nonetheless. We did take a trip onto their magnificent lawns as the weather cleared and the view over the Solent was quite exceptional. Overall we wouid definitely go back as they were so lovely and friendly but might not try breakfast again.
