Understaffed but great potential
The hotel is a bit odd. The main building is a glorious manor house, with beautiful grounds, but bedrooms are in a separate modern block. The staff were good, but there clearly weren't enough of them to provide the attentive level of service that the manor house deserves. "Could do better", if only MacDonalds invested in more staff.

Pathetic show, very disappointing.
This hotel is far from a 4-star rating, more like Fawlty Towers!! The service was shockingly poor that all started by taking 20mins to check in, from here it was clear to see that there was not enough resources. The breakfast service was pathetic. People queuing out of the door when there were several dirty tables that were never cleared. The food was cold and barely replaced. We had finished our so called breakfast by the time the teas and coffees were served. The breakfast room was firthy, the crockery was chipped and dirty, my milk jug had gravy inside prob from the night before. When entering the breakfast room the bar was full of dirty glasses, which is just an eyesore. We spent 3 nights here and this drama continued. The rooms were large but our bathroom sore better days. The shower head was broken and sprayed water everywhere and the cistern took forever to fill up. There was a fold out bed by our entrance stair for 2 days before someone cleared it. This hotel needs extensive modernising and someone to manage hotel and staff more efficiently.

Breakfast was shocking. We were put into a restaurant where we had to walk through the reception hall to get to our breakfast. No mushrooms. No bacon. Scrambled egg that looked like it had been there since the day before. Food was in a bay Marie where you had to lift the lid off and put it somewhere, not so bad despite the fact there was no where to put it, so inevitably it was put on top of another lid thus leaving that one inaccessible fir the person behind. Walks are paper thin on the rooms which is ok if you have kids 3 rooms down and want to hear what they’re up to.

Very good 8.0
Fantastic room. Main hotel a little tired.
Great room thanks to a free upgrade. Lots of space in the main area and a separate bedroom. Breakfast was OK, nothing better. Limited selection and cooked options were passable. Porridge was not! Pool area nice but needed a clean. Would definitely use again. Overall the place is very close to being a fantastic hotel in a great location. It just needs to upgrade the breakfast and the service.

Cleanliness was a little above average. Housekeeping was disappointing water, fruit, hot drink tray and toiletries were not refilled. Service was slow because of a lack of staff.
