We had a great time. The welcome we received was excellent and the staff were friendly, polite and efficient throughout our stay. The food we had was superb delicious and perfectly cooked both for evening meal and breakfast the following morning, which was done early for us. The room was also great, just the right size for our needs, very comfy bed and after walking 15 miles the deep bath was heaven. We were surprised that the tea making facility had been removed, on our travels to date this is the only one to have done this. I’d have thought there would be more risk of harm being realised through carrying hot liquids up stairs. Sadly the noise from the cellar coolers / kitchen fans was a bit intrusive, having the old sliding windows is nice, they add to the charm of the room. To reduce the noise, could a secondary glazing system be installed? Lastly, the TV is state of the art, unfortunately the signal reception was very poor. It either froze or pixelated so much it was unwatchable. Not sure what the solution would be for this. Overall it was a great stay, we would definitely stay again if in the area.

Definite return visit on the cards!

The good: Overall we had an excellent stay. The food was out of this world and anyone travelling past should stop to enjoy their amazing meals, breakfasts and our bed was also one of the comfiest we have ever slept in! Now the bad: Whilst our room had some exceptional items (dyson hair dryer, B&O TV and glorious roll top bath) it was extremely tired in places. We stayed in room 9 and it looked as though there may have been a leak at some point at the top of the wall, which had been rectified however it had been painted with a primer that didn’t match so was a bit of an eye sore. The lamp on the desk flickered (possible dodgy bulb), one of the blinds was ripped and did not open level and finally the radiator in the toilet had been painted then rusted with condensation and was peeling. All of these things would not take much to rectify given the quality of the pub and other items. None of this would put us off staying again, we would just try another room. The wood fired pizzas in the garden are to die for and their À la carte menu in the restaurant was some of the best food we’ve ever had. We would recommend The Wheatsheaf to anyone but perhaps request another room.

    Bad hotel, good restaurant

The restaurant was nice, the hotel not so much. We stayed in a deluxe double room which looked great on the pictures. It was small, weird layout, and was a twin room with the beds pushed together. We had a leaky tap which was in the bedroom area meaning we had an annoying drip and hissing noise. We complained but got no apology, they just turned the water off at the mains, meaning we had an unusable sink. The room was at the front of the property and there is a church bell that rings every 15 minutes. Yep, every 15 minutes! Not the hotels fault but just an FYI. Then when we went for breakfast they had no coffee, which is ridiculous. All round, I wouldn't stay here again.

Had a lovely time and the staff were very friendly and approachable. Breakfast was delicious and it’s definitely worth booking in for dinner. If you are coming back from a day out be warned car parking may be taken up by those Visiting for the evening, however, was able to park on street. No air con in rooms meant we felt the heat during recent heatwave, but in fairness it is a historic property so that is to be expected. Would happily stay again. Thanks again. :-)

    Disappointing service.

Food was disappointing and staff aloof when we complained about the inedible Partridge. Rooms were nice, but no tea or coffee in the room and then no answer when calling to request it. Internet details also incorrect so no access which is a problem as no phone signal there. It's a nice hotel but for the price there are many more that are nicer in the Cotswolds. Wouldn't recommend it.based on how unvalued the staff made us feel.

Not a great stay in Northleach

Checked in for a 2 night stay. Asked about newspapers and I asked for no paper on Saturday, yes please for Sunday, conclusion, paper on Saturday and no paper on Sunday. Asked for a dinner reservation on Friday, paper note taken, not transferred to the computer, conclusion no booking had been noted, eventually resolved. Apart from a wine list, no drinks tarriff was available (illegal I think), double gin cost £13.00 ok, in all innocence I ordered a double Martell at the end of dinner and an attempt to charge £36.00 was made. This was a standard Martell, not XO or XXO. I refused to pay, 3 times the cost of gin and the excuse given was that the unknown charges were set by Head Office but such should have been visible conclusion, charge was reduced to £18.00, still far to high, generally the drinks charges were excessive for a village pub. At breakfast the self service table was not monitored/replenished for plates and food, result blank sections. One of the twin WHB units in the bedroom was choked, this was reported quickly but nothing done, also the shower tray did not drain properly and unless the shower was switched off part way, would have overflowed. Our room window area was in the middle of redecoration, painters chased out but areas left very dusty and window covered with masking tape. No hanging cupboards for clothing, just a couple of hooks. All in all for 2 nights B&B, a charge of £200 per night was excessive, will not return.
