Good Quality 4 Star Hotel in The City
We stayed for one Saturday night as the hotel was local to an event we were attending. We didn't use any facilities apart from the room which was pretty nice. We arrived a couple of hours before the advertised check-in time but the room was ready for us. Our room was in the new development to the right of the lobby. The room itself was modern and the bed was big and sumptuous. There was tea/coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, shoe mitt, safe, empty fridge in the room and free toiletries in the bathroom. Actually, it wasn't a bathroom it was a big walk in shower room. I guess if you want a bath you need to request a room with one? There was a huge TV in the room with all the premium Sky channels including Sport and Movies. There is a comprehensive (but expensive) room service menu with some menu items available 24hrs. We had a view of an office block from the room! The only downside of our stay was the noise from revellers at some bar outside the hotel that was quite loud until midnight - 1ish in the morning. Wasn't too bad though. We were on the 2nd floor maybe a higher floor would be quieter?? The hotel is very easy to find and just a 2 minute walk from Tower Hill tube. There's plenty of pubs and restaurants near by (recommend Bodian for good old fashioned ribs and burgers etc - kids eat free too up to 5.30pm) which is good because a lot of the Financial district is closed at the weekend. All in all a decent 4 star hotel at a good price compared to others.

Exceptional 10.0
Apex City of London Hotel over Christmas
This hotel was absolutely the best experience we have had in years of traveling to Europe. It was impeccably clean and furnished with wonderful amenities such as a very comfortable bed and pillows, free snacks and bottled water - even a small refrigerator. The bathroom was spacious with both a very nice shower and a huge tub for soaking. We even had robes we could wear to lounge in! Even though London is crowded at Christmas, there was virtually no noise in our room which faced a small side street. There was an office building across from our room, but at night the black out drapes kept the light out. This hotel was modern and up to date and in a very convenient location close to Tower Hill tube station. The staff were friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a smile. I know the restaurant hasn't gotten too many positive comments in other reviews, but we had Christmas breakfast there and it was fine with both a buffet and a menu to choose from. Yes, a little pricey - but for the convenience and decent food we felt it was definitely worth it. Plus where else can you get breakfast on Christmas Day when you have an early flight out? The Wi-Fi was generally good although occasionally slow, but it was fine for our purposes. We did not use the spa or gym facilities, so I can't comment on them. We would definitely stay in this hotel again and will do so on future trips. Everything was perfect - can't think of anything that wasn't!

Exceptional 10.0
Great Hotel, Close to the Tower of London
This hotel was wonderful! It's super close to the Tower of London and the Tower Hill underground stop. Seriously, only about a 3 minute walk to both of these! We even had a room where we could see part of the Tower Bridge, from our window! (6th floor) We stayed here with our 2 teenaged kids and had enough room, but it was a bit tight with the sofa bed out but the bathroom was pretty large. Everyday we had complimentary waters, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuit cookies. When we arrived we even had free jellybeans and Pringles for the kids and cute rubber duckies. There were also robes and slippers in the room and a separate shower and tub. The hotel is located on a quiet side street, directly across from the Four Seasons, so it's pretty quiet and not too hectic to walk there. There are quite a few pubs/restaurants very close by and 2 Starbucks within a couple of blocks ;) To get there: We flew in from Gatwick and took the Gatwick Express to Victoria station which was super easy. We then took the tube from Victoria Station to Tower Hill which was fine except it was during rush hour and we had lots of suitcases and the lift at Victoria Station was being renovated, on the way back we took a cab from the hotel to Victoria Station and then the Gatwick Express and that was better. Overall, we loved our time at the Apex hotel and hope to return soon!

Fair 4.0
Good location near Tower Hill Tube
I was very disappointed about this hotel as I had done my research and this hotel looked ideal. The only good point about this hotel is the location. It is 2 minutes walk from the Tower Hill tube - which proved essential for our stay in London. So, the bad points... As a vegetarian there was nothing on the menu that I could eat - apart from the sides. I ordered the mac and cheese and was told I couldn't just order a side and the waiter advised he would make it into a main - so he brought out 2 servings of the sides, which I explained I could not eat but was still charged. There was nothing on the menu my 9 year old son could eat, so we only ate dinner once here. The breakfast was adequate and I must mention complements to the chef. On about 90% of my bills they were incorrect, and the waiter had to correct it practically every time - once he needed to correct it 3 times! At the end of stay I noticed I had been charged for food I had not received. Initially the staff were not willing to take them off but after further conversation they were removed. I was missing de-caff tea bags in my room which I requested from reception - only never to arrive which I was disappointed about. I need to mention also the dreadful smell on the towels. They smelled musty and were hard - not what I would expect from this hotel. The hotel was very clean and most of the staff were very professional. Others looked startled when you talked to them and weren't very helpful.

great location, mixed bag for families
This is a very good hotel. 4 well-earned stars. It's not a warm-and-welcoming kind of place, though. That's just not what they are. The super-sleek, mostly black-and-white & art deco-ish decor will be your first tip-off about this. Personally I don't really care what a hotel looks like because I'm there to rest, sleep, leave some of my stuff during the day, and enter/exit as conveniently as possible -- if I wanted a home then I would visit a B&B. The beginning was our fault: early morning plane arrival from Boston (no sleep!), arrived at hotel about 10:30 hoping to get an early check-in. Wish they'd just told us it would take 3 hours. Yes I *know* there are specific check-in times but we were exhausted and just wanted to crash. Hotel staff were polite but business-like, strolling about and essentially ignoring us while we slumped and dozed at a restaurant table. We're a family of 4 with a tall teenager and smaller tween. Adults got the king bed, the boy slept well on the sleeper sofa, and we brought a sleeping bag that the girl was fine to use on the floor (with a folded blanket underneath). Worked out great, and I slept much better all 5 nights than I usually do in a hotel (or at home!). Maybe it was the time of year (mid-May), but we saw very few other families in the area. The 4 Seasons is nearby, and besides the Tower of London it's not a touristy spot. Be ready to travel each day. My overall sense of this hotel is that young kids are tolerated but not really welcomed.
