This hotel was lovely. It has the perfect mix of modern amenities and old world charm. The staff was world-class - quiet, efficient, good at their jobs. The hotel is right next to the cathedral, so the bell can be heard all night. The hotel provides earplugs, which help, as does closing the windows at night.

We had two separate reservations -one Deluxe room and one Superior double room. Both rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Some maintenance issues were noted for both rooms, however. Our deluxe room had a broken heated towel rack, and some water damage underneath the sky lights. Our deluxe room also had a missing ceiling panel that allowed us to view the venting system. Our bathroom was extremely tight- unlike the hotel's other deluxe rooms I've stayed in . The second reservation in the Superior room was clean and fresh looking. However we also had a broken heated towel rack...hmm. The location of the hotel was great and the kitchen and desk staff were very helpful. Our biggest disappointment was with the sauna (which you pay extra for). Previously, they have used the historic well as a cold water plunge pool -which was both unique and very special. People who understand sauna's know that a cold plunge is an essential benefit. A cold shower isn't a replacement and for some reason, our hotel has chosen to drain the pool and replace it with fake plants. Really disappointing. We didn't sauna again there. Breakfasts were very nice -lots of well prepared food and many choices.

Classic hotel in old town. Great location adjacent to the palace in Gamla Stan with shopping and many places to eat. The area gets crowded when the cruise ships dock but quiets down nicely after the cruisers head back to the ship. The breakfast is top notch. Our complaint was the hotel advertised the room was air conditioned. It "was", but we were told at check in the air conditioner was broken and not fixable during our stay. We got to our room and the temperature was nearly 90 degrees. We stayed one of the three nights on our reservation. That said, even though we prepaid in a "non cancellable" room the hotel staff was very understanding. They allowed us to cancel and fully refunded our money for the two unused nights. Very professional and much appreciated.

I've been a guest of this hotel for over 20 years, and I've seen it change hands several times. Changes have occurred over the years, both good and bad. During the current visit, I had these take aways: The breakfast -really nice. Lots of choices, well prepared, and you won't walk away hungry. The room - beautiful wooden beams in the ceiling, and comfy beds. The downside was that it was in need of maintenance. There was an open space in the ceiling of the bathroom that allowed us to see the vent structure, towels were NOT plush and there was only one bath towel and face towel per guest (no washcloths) and for women -when your shampooing your hair, you really need another towel. Lastly, my biggest disappointment was the sauna. The towel heater was also broken. The most unique feature of this hotel was having an original well that was restored and served as a cold plunge pool for the sauna. For whatever reason, the owners have decided to drain the pool, and decorate it with fake flowers instead. Unbelievable. So there's a nice sauna and only a simple shower to cool down. Anyone who wants the full benefits of a sauna knows that you need a cold plunge pool. There was a fee, and no warning that the pool no longer existed. The receptionists were great, and all other employees were lovely, but the hotel needs some up keeping.
