Probably would not book this hotel again
Arrived at hotel in the evening. Tired after a long flight. Cab dropped us at the front door. No door man or front desk help to help with all of our luggage. Checked in at the front desk. Front desk person was friendly however front desk person kept trying to up-sale hotel services. Told person thank you but no thanks. The front desk person insisted on going over their extra amenities ...of course at an extra cost. When the front desk person did not get the extra up-sale...he pointed to the elevator and said that is where you can go to your room. No bell man available. Evening dinner was very nice in the hotel. All staff in the restaurant were extremely nice and professional. The front desk person needs customer service training from the restaurant staff. Hotel room was nice however the bathroom counter was dirty. Never cleaned or wiped down from previous hotel guest(s). We are very experienced international travelers. Normally for a hotel of this caliber we would come to expect assistance or asked if we needed help with our luggage into the front lobby or even to our room; a welcome bottle of mineral water in the room; clean bathrooms; and not having to be up-sold on hotel services at check-in( people are tired from travel). When we checked out, there was a long line to checkout in the morning. Finding some one at the front desk to call a cab took time...not enough of help at the front desk.

Exceptional 10.0
I booked two room for myself and my son. we arrived very early and was expecting to leave our luggage and start exploring the city but the front staff was ready for our arrival and let us check in early . They did try to upgrade me for other things but I politely declined and we proceeded to our rooms on the 7th. My sons room was right around the corner from my room and was facing the courtyard and mine was facing the main road across from the office building next door. My son was very comfortable with his room and worked out at the gym daily as I was on vacation and was relaxing. my room was very quite, clean, warm, and was very comfortable. I slept with the window/door open most nights and though there was the sounds of the city I slept quit well, with little disturbance. though the fireworks on New Years was all night but I expected that!! The bathroom was was very nice, clean, and modern and the floor was heated which was pleasant. the water was very hot and loved the water pressure in the shower but tough to turn on the shower without getting sprayed on. we did not have the breakfast as we were on the go early and just grapped a quick breakfast sandwich or bread close by with a nice coffee. Elevators worked great and you did have to use your key to operate the elevator. rail station right down the street and plenty of pubs and restaurants!!! this was a great stay and also a great location to most of the main sites and subway!!!

Recommended hotel
I was very impressed with this hotel. We had a premier river-view room, which was fantastic. The bed was superking sized, the room & bathroom were spacious & very clean. Our room was on the corner of a fairly busy junction but once the windows were closed at night, we had no disturbances at all with passing traffic; the windows closed out all noise. We also had a safe in the wardrobe. There was a choice of bed pillows. The location of the hotel is excellent. We were first-time visitors to Berlin. It was very easy to find the train station from the airport with a short walk. The hotel is then very close to the station. We could walk everywhere we wanted whilst in Berlin with restaurants, bars & sights easy to find from the hotel. The breakfast had a brilliant choice of hot & cold foods. We also drank outside at the tapas bar, which was pleasant but on a busy corner with lots of pedestrian traffic. My only negatives are that the hairdryer was on a short cable that couldn’t be moved & was very hot, as is the case in many hotels. Also, too much space is taken up in the room with minibar items. However, these are small complaints. If we were to return to Berlin I would definitely use this hotel. Staff were friendly at the desks & in corridors. The cleanliness of the bedroom/bathroom & breakfast room were of the highest quality. The public areas were also well kept & welcoming.

The Melia is in a great location on Freidrichstrasse, only a couple of hundred metres from the railway and metro station. Very handy when arriving from Schoenefeld on the train - the S9 from the airport stops at Friedrichstrasse, so it was a simple transfer. The staff were very efficient and welcoming on arrival, and we had our keys within a couple of minutes. As we had arrived late, we went straight up to the room, and were very pleased - very large room, big TV, fridge, large rainfall shower in the bathroom. Lots of restaurants in the immediate area (as well as the AdmiralsPalast concert venue - great if you're visiting for a gig - the venue is about 100 metres away!). Easy walk to the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island, Tiergarten, and easy access to the U-bahn for getting around Berlin easily. My only minor "dislikes": there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Also, the king bed was actually two king singles pushed together - but still made up with single sheets and duvets. Would have preferred an actual king bed. And lastly - and pretty trivial - the TV service had 80+ channels - but the only ones with English audio were news channels. Would have been good to have a movie or entertainment channel or two in English. Overall, the hotel was great - the minor things were the only thing preventing me from giving it 5 out of 5. Can't fault the location, staff, and overall quality of the hotel though, and I would recommend it.

Hotel location is outstanding
Check-in was easy. The extra cost of the river view was well worth the money. Free WiFi was not the fastest ... but was free. Breakfast was $30 per person. We did not partake as the hotel across the river offered a tasty continental breakfast for just over 8 euros each. Service from the desk was appreciated. We had requested and were told that our room had a king size bed. Rather than a king size bed There were two full size beds pushed together. My experience is that slipping down between the two beds really isn't pleasant. I contacted the desk who informed me that there were no 'real' king beds available only push-together king beds. I was told that the only option was to have housekeeping come up to the room to put a 'topper' on the bed. I politely shared with the clerk that I wasn't happy with the alternative but as we had no choice they should bring the topper up. Within 10 minutes the phone rang and the clerk told us that she had found us a room with a 'real' king size bed and a few minutes later we were happily enjoying the wonderful view. The location is 1 minute away from the U-bahn (7 euros for a day pass) and within a comfortable walking distance of great museums and historic sights.
