Beautiful hotel in the heart of the city
This hotel was gorgeous and in a very good location. We were only here one night, so we didn't get an opportunity to explore the hotel or Galway for very long, but our short stay was enjoyable. The hotel restaurant offered a three course dinner menu for a reasonable price (particularly if you arrived prior to 7:30 to catch the "early bird" for a discount). Their wine selection was decent and not overly pricey. We did enjoy a late night nightcap in their bar after doing some sightseeing, as all local bars close at 11:30, but their bar stayed open until 2:30 a.m. Our only complaint is that their parking deck is not easy to find. From the direction we were heading, we did not see any sign to their parking deck, so we turned down a gravel alley which turned out to be one way and obviously NOT the correct way to go! I suggest you call ahead to make sure you know where the entrance is as we spent 40 minutes getting to the correct parking area (we arrived during rush hour traffic unfortunately!). Still our stay was overall enjoyable, and the staff were very friendly.

Behind the times
This hotel was incredibly clean, the staff was always very helpful, and all "traditional" metrics were met. However, three major areas impact my feelings on this: 1. The wifi service was awful. As someone from the states who does not have a phone plan abroad due to cost efficiencies, not having reliable wifi at the hotel was a major issue when trying to make reservations online, map out our routes for the day, etc. The wifi rarely worked, and I typically had to switch back and forth between two separate wifi accounts, one of which was unsecured, and one that required me to re-enter my password over and over again. In addition, when the wifi would work, it was incredibly slow if not completely ineffective at doing anything. 2. Staff recommendations. When asking staff recommendations for local restaurants or bars they prefer, they automatically told us to go to their own restaurant. I found this to be quite out of touch - the restaurant, although certainly looking quite fancy, is not one that we would want to go to on a regular basis. You know the area better than we do, so don't automatically give us biased recommendations for eating and spending MORE money at your own restaurant. 3. Extra charges: we made three phone calls while in the room (two because the wifi wasn't working to make reservations online). We got charged for making LOCAL calls!

Very good 8.0
Just off Eyre Square, this hotel has a traditional interior. It's clean, quiet and felt safe. It's also a very well run establishment… the best encountered in a long time. Rooms were adequately sized though a bit smallish. In our room, the queen-sized bed wasn't particularly comfortable and was showing some wear. The room included a two person love seat for watching the tiny TV. Not surprisingly, TV audio was marginal. Lighting was adequate but not for reading. The bathroom has a workable shower. The toilet is fine, too. But the sink controls needed maintenance. The hot water control came on instantly while the cold water control had to be repeatedly turned to get cold water to flow. There's no exhaust fan so steamy mirrors are a given. Lighting is OK but fails to illuminate your face, and that makes shaving a challenge. There's an on-site restaurant where an excellent breakfast buffet is served. It also serves great lunches and suppers. It's no sacrifice to eat-in. Highly recommended. This hotel provides convenient access to a reasonably priced third party laundry service. Unfortunately that service isn't the best. Some clothes came back with stains. Sometimes there was laundry that wasn't ours. The staff here are some of the best in the industry. This level of customer-centric service reflects top notch management and staff training. Overall, there's a lot to like here. On a return visit to Galway, they would be on our short list of places to stay.

Very good 8.0
Old school hotel with a great location.
This hotel is around the corner from the bus station and train station. It is a short walk to Eyre Square and beyond. There is a very large restaurant inside and a very pretty bar. While we did not eat at the restaurant, there were always many people who did. Many of them seemed to be local, especially in the evenings. Our only complaint with the hotel is that it was reminiscent of old London. Heavy on the brass fixtures, floral carpeting, and stuffy couches everywhere. Many people frequent the hotel for afternoon tea. Our room was spotless but contained an incredible amount of furniture. It was rather cramped. In short, beautiful facility, good location, quiet, but a bit dated and reserved. Staff was helpful.

Highly recommended
Lovely cozy friendly hotel in perfect location in Galway city centre. Beautiful carpets throughout. Parking at hotel is limited but hotel look after your car and take your keys and park for you and they are on hand all time so no worrying about car or keys. Breakfast freshly cooked and brought to table with plenty of fresh tea and coffee on hand. Staff very friendly. Room was very spacious, we were to the back of hotel so it was lovely and peaceful. Bathroom spotlessly clean with plenty of space around sink to put toiletries. Hairdryer is the usual bathroom hairdryer which is not great. Also although shower was fine, it is not a power shower. These are my only 2 negatives and it would not deter me from returning--if I did return I would take my own little travel hairdryer with me.
