Great Old Downtown Hotel
If you are looking for a modern, high-tech, luxury hotel with a fancy restaurant and a bar downstairs, the Helms Inn is not for you. However, if you would like a modest, clean, and convenient little hotel with character at a good price with a hospitable, responsive staff, the Helms Inn is perfect. It is on the same block with the provincial museum (totem poles on the grounds), a few blocks from the Victoria harbor, and two blocks up the street from the Victoria Convention Center, but out of the bustle of the commercial and tourist center. The location is perfect if you would like to have access to the downtown Victoria attractions. The Helms Inn was a pleasant four-block walk from a very nice grocery store to stock up the kitchen for my stay. My room was somewhat dated but in excellent condition. It was clean and had all the necessities, including a complete little kitchen supplied with all of the necessities to prepare simple meals. There was also coffee and a bowl of apples in the lobby. My room was on the top (third) floor, and there is no elevator, which could be a problem for someone with a disability. Upon arrival, I received a cheerful greeting from the well-informed lobby clerk, who oriented me to the inn and surroundings. The magnetic card key, which often fails at hotels, worked easily. The day before I left, I asked a different lobby clerk to order an airport shuttle to pick me up, and it was done. The Helms Inn is a simply great place to stay.

Walking distance to Beacon Hill Park, the room was clean with a full kitchen and the windows opened to allow fresh air. Staff did not tell us up front that we had to pay $10/day for parking, not a big expense just the principle when you are budgeting for your trip. There is a bike rental business two walking blocks down the street. Close to Fishermen s Wharf. Victoria is a beautiful city I would recommend the City and the Helm's Inn.

The Helm's Inn in Victoria, B.C.
This is our go to hotel in Victoria. It is always clean. The staff are always polite, respectful and courteous. It is located across from Beaconsfield Park, near tourist attractions and within easy walking distance to shop. Our room had kitchen facillities so breakfast was a snap. We were able to have "happy hour" in our room. In the room there is adequate room to move around. The beds are comfortable. Windows open....a must for my husband. Lighting is good....with both pot lights and lamps. There was a small kitchen table with 2 chairs next to the kitchen area. A comphy chair sat in the corner close to the bed and a lamp for reading. Towels were not changed if hung up and were changed if left in the tub. Hair product was good. Restaurants are nearby.....The Old Spaghetti House, The Sticky Wicket. For our 3rd night we found an excellent burger house....The Pink Bicycle on Blanchard within walking distance. Lunches we enjoyed in the Irish Times, the Bard and Banker and the Sticky Wicket. The hotel has parking for $5 a night. It seems secure and adequate. Rooms have been renovated since we started staying here on our yearly visits. More parking is currently being added. Next the outside is slated to be renovated. At the back there is a small seating area surrounded by gardens. We always sleep well at this hotel as the area is quiet at night.

A place not far away from attractions!
Good location! Just behind the Parliament and other tourist spots. Service was good and staffs were friendly. They even allowed us to park till late afternoon even though we already checked out. Our only problem was that the room smells like a kitchen. Maybe the tenant before us cooked something that the smell lingered all throughout the night... we end up opening our windows. But overall , good place and rooms are reasonably priced.

This is the third time we have stayed and we werent disappointed. The property is conveniently located in downtown Victoria, has nice rooms, pleasant staff and is well priced. This time our room had a kitchenette with full stove, microwave and fridge which was an unexpected bonus. Lastly the hotel is close to the No. 70 (Swartz Bay) bus stop and Thrifty Foods is an easy 10 minutes walk away.
